教材内容分析
  本单元围绕“Noises in the night”这一话题,辅之以对话和句型,重点讲述过去分词的两种用法,即过去分词作定语和状语。本单元同时复习了拜访、互相介绍、告别场合的交际用语。掌握句型:It’s time+主语+动词的过去式/should+动词原形+sth.。 “是某人该做某事的时候了”。句型中的动词过去式并不表示过去时间的动词,而是表示虚拟语气,注意should在此处不可省。例如:It’s time you went to bed. = It’s time you should go to bed. = It’s time for you to go to bed. It’s time we started. = It’s time we should start. = It’s time for us to start. 同时,也要掌握句型: Her uncle seemed to be acting rather strangely towards her. = It seemed that her uncle was acting rather strangely towards her. 例如:My parents seemed to know that. = It seemed that my parents knew that. 通过本单元的学习,让学生对英国作家柯南道尔爵士笔下塑造的大侦探福尔摩斯在探案方面的足智多谋有进一步的了解。学习他善于观察、分析、勤于思考,严密的逻辑思维能力。培养学生遇事仔细观察、勤于思考、善于推理的能力。

本单元的语法项目
The Past Participle as Attribute and Adverbial
(过去分词作定语和状语)
掌握过去分词的要点是:
(1)形式:done
注意是否重复最后一个辅音字母。如:wrapped, referred to , preferred, controlled
注意是否为不规则动词。如:cut, woken, lit/lighted, burned/burnt, set, hung/hanged
(2)表示被动完成或完成
及物动词的过去分词表示被动完成。如:
the broken glasses被打碎的眼镜
the teach building built last year去年建成的教学楼
不及物动词的过去分词表示完成,不表示被动。如:
fallen leaves         落叶
the risen sun       升起的太阳
retired workers            退休工人
(3)注意位置
单个的过去分词一般放在被修饰词的前面,如:
the developed countries   发达国家
returned students        归国留学生
过去分词词组一般放在被修饰词的后面。如:
the rope fastened to the tree       系在树上的绳子
the trees cut down yesterday       昨天砍的树
(4)作用
作定语:过去分词作定语时,单个词置于所修饰的词前,短语置于所修饰的词.如:
The ground is covered by fallen leaves.
地面被落叶覆盖。
Our school has set up a leading group, made up of old, middle-aged and young cadres.
我们学校组成了一个包括老、中、青干部的领导小组。
作状语:过去分词作状语可表示原因、时间、条件、方式或伴随。例如:
Encouraged by Engels’ letter, Marx studied even harder, (= As Marx was encouraged by Engels’ letter…)
由于恩格斯来信的鼓舞,马克思学习更加刻苦了。
Seen from the top of the castle, the park looks very beautiful. (= When the park is seen from the top of the castle, …)
从城堡顶端看,公园十分美丽。
(5)注意与现在分词和不定式的区别
作定语时:the sports meeting held last week             上周举行的运动会
the sports meeting being held now        现在正举行的运动会
the sports meeting to be held tomorrow            明天将举行的运动会
作状语时:
Tom is sitting under the tree, reading English.
汤姆正坐在树下读英语。
The trainer appeared, followed by six little dogs.
训练者出现了,后面跟着六条小狗。
He has nothing to be taken to the city.
他没有什么东西需要带到城里去。
[例] 用括号中所给词的适当形式填空。
  1.On the second floor lay an old woman __________(kill) in the fire.
  2.The teach buildings __________(build) in 1960 need repairing.
  3.I found my school bag __________(leave) in Mary’s room.
  4.__________ (give) more time, I’ll finish my work on time.
