It was Wang Hongyi’s first test flight of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) (无人机)designed and assembled(组装)with his teammates from the Aero-Sport Club (航模队)at Shanghai Jiaotong University. Wang is a senior mechanical engineering and automation major. He has been a plane model fan since childhood. As a freshman, he spent two nights building a model aircraft and took it to the sports field just for fun. Wu Junqi, the coach of Shanghai Jiaotong University’s Aero-Sport Club, spotted Wang and told him his model was outdated. “I was a little angry, so he took me to the lab,” says Wang. He was immediately drawn to the modern equipment and decided to join the club. As a technology fan, Wang spends most of his spare time in the lab. “He loves what he’s doing, so he can stand the loneliness of doing research that others seldom have the persistence to carry out.” says coach Wu. When Wang and his teammates were building UAV, they lived together in the lab. “We tried to spend as much time together as possible because there were thousands of problems that needed to be solved.” Wang says. They didn’t even have time to celebrate when the first test flight of the UAV went well. “We needed to list the problems that occurred during the flight and analyze them to find solutions.” he says. “Our UAV isn’t finished yet, but there are many design projects and people with similar interests waiting for me.” Wang says. “The UAV is just the beginning, not the end of my aircraft journey.” 21. Why did Wang succeed in doing the research? A. He majored in mechanical engineering and automation. B. He had a good coach and wonderful teammates. C. He loved what he did and would stick to it. D. He was highly thought of by Wu Junqi. 22. What does the writer want to do by writing the passage? A. Encourage students to learn from Wang Hongyi. B. Tell readers about UAV development in China. C. Inform readers about Wang Hongyi and his UAV. D. Call on readers to do what interests them. 23. What message does Wang Hongyi’s story convey to us? A. Nothing is difficult if you put your heart into it. B. Two heads are better than one. C. Interest is the best teacher. D. Actions speak louder than words. B When we talk about intelligence, we do not mean the ability to get good scores in certain kinds of tests or even the ability to do well in school. By intelligence we mean a way of living and behaving, especially in a new or anxious situation. If we want to test intelligence, we need to find out how a person acts instead of how much he knows what to do. For example, when in a new situation, an intelligent person thinks about the situation, not about himself or what might happen to him. He tries to find out all he can, and then he acts immediately and tries to do something about it. He probably isn’t sure how it will all work out, but at least he tries. And, if he can’t make things work out right, he doesn’t feel ashamed that he fails; he just tries to learn from his mistakes. An intelligent person, even if he is very young, has a special outlook(人生观) on life, special feeling about life, and knows how he fits into it. If you look at children, you’ll see great difference between what we call “bright” children and “not bright” children. They are actually two different kinds of people, not just the same kind with different amounts of intelligence. For example, the bright child really wants to find out more about life — he tries to get in touch with everything around him. But the unintelligent child keeps more to himself and his own dream–world; he seems to have a wall between him and life in general. 24. This passage mainly tells us that intelligence is the ability_________ . A. to do well in school B. to behave immediately C. to know what to do D. to deal with life 25. In the author’s opinion the biggest difference between “bright” children and “not bright” children lies in ____. A. the amount of intelligence B. the different situations they face C. the different attitudes to life D. the background of life 26. What’s the main idea of the passage? A. What’s real meaning of intelligence? B. What’s the “bright” children’s behavior? C. What’s a special outlook on life? D. How to live and behave in a new situation? 27. What might the author continue to talk about in the passage that follows? . A. how to determine what intelligence is B. how an unintelligent person should be taught C. how to judge whether a person is intelligent D. how education should be changed C Our body clock, or natural body rhythm, influences our energy and alertness. Paying attention to it can help us choose the suitable time of the day when we best perform specific tasks. The reality, however, is that most of us organize the time around work demands, school deadlines, commuting or social events. Doing whatever the body feels like doing is a luxury in today’s fast-paced modern society. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth trying. Obeying our body clock has significant health benefits. Disrupting our natural body rhythm, on the other hand, has been linked to problems such as depression, obesity, or headache, says Steve Key, a biology professor. When the body clock can synchronize (使……同步) the rhythms of its natural processes, it “gives us an advantage in daily life”, says Key. According to him, when it comes to cognitive (认知的) work, most adults perform best in the late morning. As our body temperature starts to rise just before awakening in the morning and continues to increase until midday, our memory, alertness and concentration gradually improve. However, he adds, our ability to concentrate typically starts to decrease soon thereafter. Most of us are more easily distracted (分心) between noon and 4 pm. Alertness also tends to fall after eating a meal and sleepiness tends to peak around 2 pm, making that a good time for a nap. Surprisingly, tiredness may increase our creative powers. For most adults, problems that require open-ended thinking are often best dealt with in the evening when they are tired, according to a study in the journal Thinking & Reasoning. When choosing a time of the day to exercise, paying attention to your body clock can improve results. Physical performance is usually best from about 3 to 6 pm, says Michael Smolensky, a professor of biomedical engineering. Of course, not everyone’s body clock is the same, making it even harder to synchronize natural rhythms with daily plans. 28. If we know our natural body rhythm well, we can ______. A. find out the suitable time to do specific tasks B. organize our time around work demands C. do whatev | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
