My personal opinion is that there is a built-in mechanism(机制) for teenagers to start to be annoyed by their parents at around the age of 12 when they become “cool”. The parents’ reaction is then negative because they are now hated instead of being admired. Most parents can’t deal with this situation and it drives them crazy. Half of parents get tired and give up all the rules, while the other half become so strict that the kids begin to hate them.

If parents want to help their teenager get through it they need to understand what is going on, which nearly all parents DON’T . This ensures that both parties will fail each other and generally cause annoyance, stress and ill will!

On the other hand, the teenager needs to understand the insecurity(不安) the parent feels as the teenager increasingly has a mind of his or her own. Sure, the kid has never done anything wrong and when the parents make improper rules or start calling that teenager certain qualities that he or she has never had, the teenager’s natural reaction is to fight back. Luckily for parents, teenagers’ first reaction is rarely to hurt their parents deeply. However, they will do other things, such as drinking, taking drugs, and having poor performance in school as revenge (报复) for the words and actions of their parents. What neither side understands is that they are hurting themselves and each other and the only cause is lacking the ability to consider things calmly for both sides. Therefore, keeping calm is the first step.

1. What is the text mainly about?

A. Why parents and teenagers fight. B. Why some kids behave badly in school.

C. What makes teenagers think negatively? D. How parents should make rules on teenagers.

2. The underlined word “it’ in Paragraph 1 refers to _____.

A. parents’ failure to rule teenagers B. teenagers’ revenge

C. teenagers’ disrespect to parents D. parents’ insecurity

3. Some teenagers hate their parents because ____.

A. they want to become cool B. their material needs aren’t satisfied

C. they want to challenge their parents D. they get too many rules from their parents

4. About the relationship between parents and teenagers, what can we learn?

A. There’s no good way to deal with their fighting.

B. They should think more for both sides calmly.

C. Teenagers should take more responsibility than parents.

D. Teenagers are likely to admire their parents after 12 years old.

B

Space is where our future is — trips to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Most people would think that aside from comets(彗星) and stars, there is little else out there. But, since our space journey started we have left so much trash(垃圾) there that scientists are now concerned that if we don't clean it up, we may all be in mortal (致命的)danger.

The first piece of space junk was created in 1964, when the American satellite Vanguard I stopped operating and lost its connection with the ground center. However, since it kept orbiting around the Earth without any consequences, scientists became increasingly comfortable abandoning things that no longer served any useful purpose in space.

It is estimated that there are now over 500,000 pieces of man-made trash orbiting the Earth at speeds of up to 17,500 miles per hour. The junk varies from tiny pieces of paint chipped off rockets to cameras, huge fuel tanks, and even odd items like the million-dollar tool kit that astronaut Heidemarie Stefanyshyn Piper lost during a spacewalk.

The major problem with the space trash is that it may hit working satellites and damage traveling spacecraft. Moreover, pieces of junk may collide(碰撞) with each other and break into pieces which fall back to the Earth. To avoid this, scientists have invented several ways for clearing the sky. Ground stations have been built to monitor larger pieces of space trash to prevent them from crashing into working satellites or space shuttles. Future plans include a cooperative effort among many nations to stop littering in space and to clean up the trash already there.

5. Why were scientists NOT concerned about space trash in the beginning?

A. It no longer served any useful purpose.

B. It was millions of miles away from the earth.

C. It did not cause any problems.

D. It was regarded as similar to comets and stars.

6. Which of the following statements is true about space junk?

A. It is huge, heavy machines.

B. It never changes position.

C. It floats slowly around the Earth.

D. It may cause problems for space shuttles.

7. What has been done about the space trash problem?

A, Scientists have cleaned up most of the trash.

B. Large pieces of space trash are being closely watched.

C. Many nations have worked together to stop polluting space.

D. Ground stations are built to help store the trash properly in space.

Nearly two million drivers in the UK have had accidents due to “Baby on Board” signs and children’s toys that affect their view, according to alarming new research. One in 20 motorists says stickers and playtime paraphernalia(装备) are to blame for a collision—equivalent to 1.85 million of Britain’s 37 million drivers. The discovery triggered a warning by a road safety charity—Brake to cut down on clutter in the car.

Deputy Chief executive Julie Townsend said “Baby on Board” signs are very useful in alerting the emergency services that a child may be involved in case of crash. “This help can become negative if drivers display signs when their child isn’t in the car,” she said. “Worse still is the danger that can be caused by drivers influencing their view by cluttering up windows with lots of signs. Drivers’ priority should always be getting there safely without putting themselves, young passengers or other road users at risk.

A survey arranged by price comparison website Confused. com found that 37 percent of parents have displayed signs and four out of five of them believe they improve safety. But 46 percent admit doing so at all times—regardless of whether or not their child is in the car—and 15 percent admit they only have them for their novelty(新奇) value. The poll of 2,000 drivers also found that 46 percent of drivers regard them as a risk and 33 percent say they are lacking in taste.

“There are benefits and dangers to ‘Baby on Board’ signs. They can offer useful information for medical aid in case of a crash but having too many novelty items displayed could be a safety issue.” said a Confused. com spokesman.

Can't wait for the opening of the Shanghai Disney Resort in 2015? Meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse and all their friends at the city's largest Disney exhibition at the Shanghai Super Brand Mall.

The exhibition invites visitors to have a taste of the Disneyland under construction, according to the organizer. Many of the exhibits have been transported from the Walt Disney Family Museum in Los Angeles, like the manuscripts(手稿) of early animation producers.

The center of the mall's third floor has been transformed into a magic house with a giant Mickey above, greeting visitors. Classic cartoon figures, created by the company and its sub-companies over the past 90 years, are presented, including Winnie the Pooh.

Visitors can enjoy one of Disney's earliest film, Steamboat Willie. The film, which was screened in New York city in 1928, was considered the first fully synchronized (同步的)sound cartoon. It was also the first time that Mickey and Minnie first appeared.

Visual and audio technologies have been applied to make the exhibition interactive. In the Snow White section, a magic mirror on the wall astonishes visitors. Like the evil queen in the fairytale, visitors can stand before the mirror and ask: "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" One can see images of Snow White appear in the mirror. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, produced by the company, was considered the world's first full-length animated feature film.

In the Lion King section, stand at a designated position and enjoy the songs from the film in surround sound. The Lion King, Disney's 32nd full-length animated film, was one of the most successful Disney films and was turned into a Broadway opera.

Still the most charming star of the exhibition is Mickey Mouse, while the brightest of all is a Mickey Mouse model inlaid with more than 20,000 Swarovski crystals.

Four young artists, Yan Wei and Guan Chun from the Chinese mainland, and Dorophy Tang and Kenny Wang from Hong Kong, created different series of Mickey Mouse models with their personal styles.

Besides Disneyland, in 2015, the Walt Disney Company China will open the world's largest Disney Store, which will cover about 5,000 square meters in Lujiazui, Shanghai's financial hub.

12.Which of the following is NOT true?
