Ⅱ. Recreational tree climbing is taking root in the ecotourism industry, and it's sending guys like Tim Kovar to far off reaches of the globe. Kovar, a tree-climbing instructor, recently returned to the US from Brazil, where he spent time developing a tree-climbing operation thanks to the “slow travel” movement. Slow travel, is like the slow food movement, the practice of giving fast food in favor of home-grown cooking—the kind that takes hours to prepare and enjoy. Likewise, slow travel urges visitors to experience a place's natural surroundings and learn about the ecology in a way not afforded by extreme games. “Tree climbing is a slow activity,” says Kovar. “It's not something you do quickly and then you're on to the next thing or event.” There is no such thing as a quick climb, especially for beginners. This wasn't a race against the clock or the fellow climbers. In fact, tree climbing is unlikely to ever become a feature of the extreme games. Many climbers refuse competition. There has already been so much competition in the world. “When you stand below the tree, it can be amazing,” Rusel DeMaria says, looking affectionately up at Michael's Triumph, a 150-foot-tall tree. But reaching the treetop, he adds, is an entirely different feeling. Likewise, his wife, Viola Brumbaugh, kneels on the ground and asks Michael's Triumph for permission to climb. “It goes a lot smoother that way,” she says. And climbing has been included into many educational programs. New Tribe offers guided climbs through its school, Tree Climbing Northwest, where “we teach enough tree biology and forest ecology to raise awareness in our students,” says New Tribe president Sophis Sparks. “We know that the tree climbing experience deepens personal appreciation for trees. After climbing, people value trees more and are motivated to support preservation. This is not just to preserve their playground.” Perhaps that is why he struggles with the term “recreational tree climbing,” saying, “I prefer to call it inspirational tree climbing.” 11.What do slow travel and slow food movement have in common? A.beg for the safety of climbing B.expect to climb faster than her husband C.show respect for the tree D.ask for permission of her husband 14.Sophis Sparks prefers the term “inspirational tree climbing” because it ________. A.provides people with more chances to play outside B.brings a lot of pleasure to life C.deepens personal love between each other D.makes people realize they should protect trees 15.What's the best title for the passage? In the book, Ronson takes readers into the fascinating world of psychopaths by speaking to the experts and having amusing conversations with the psychopaths themselves. 17.This book is about a deeply funny story, as well as a deeply sad story—the great Nineties moment when a bunch of punk rock bands from Seattle accidentally blew up into the world's biggest noise. The author gives the unique chronicle of how it all happened, and how it ended too soon. The book also makes readers appreciate how strange it was. 18.This is just one of the terrifying everyday tales of the body trade documented. It started out extremely well, with some fascinating stories about the trade in human body parts. It covers many different aspects of the “red market”, ranging from skeletons to blood, and even the giant business of collecting and selling human hair. 19.It's been reported that the author has often attracted as much attention as his cars. The book is partly a biography covering a very short portion of the author's own life—his second stint at General Motor(GM)—which recently ended after about a decade. However, it's more than a biography. It is also a view on what went wrong with the US car industry and US industry in general. 20.This is a great book for anyone who has an interest in science, or wants to see advances in medicine at greater rates that we've seen them so far. If a reader has teenagers with interests in science, he should have them read this book. It will inspire them to broaden their horizons beyond the typical research lab. 5.however 表转折。 7.Hold 8.that/which 定语从句中代替指物的先行词,作主语,所以用which或that。 9.it mean it认真的,真心实意的。 10.that It was…that… 根据第二段…the kind that takes hours to prepare and enjoy. Likewise, slow travel urges visitors to…not afforded by extreme games. 根据第四段…Michael's Triumph, a 150-foot-tall tree和Viola Brumbaugh kneels on the ground and asks Michael's Triumph for permission to climb. After climbing, people value trees more and are motivated to support preservation. 从题干可知,此处描述的书是关于西雅图摇滚音乐,因此可根据这一主题对选项进行排除;从倒数第二句中的the unique chronicle of how it all happened, and how it ended too soon可知是讲历史;与这一主题最接近的是A项。 18.C 根据本题题干中的tales of the body trade及red market已基本可以确定选C。 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
