I hope you are quite well. In your last email, you say you like collecting stamps. That sounds great. I like it too and have already collected lots of them. So I’d be glad to offer you some Chinese stamps. Besides collecting stamps, I enjoy listening to different kinds of music in my spare time, like pop music, jazz, classical music and so on. If possible, I always go to a concert when there is one in our city. Sometimes I hold a music party and invite some good friends who share the same hobby. As a result, I have made many good friends and learnt much about the world. So I have benefited a lot from my hobbies. What about you? Write to me. Best wishes. Li Hua 听力材料: Text 1 W: If I were you, I’d take the bus to work. Driving in the rush hour traffic is terrible. M: But by the time the bus gets to my stop, there aren’t any seats left. Text 2 M: Hello, Mary, this is Dan Morrison from the office. I’m calling to see how Tom is doing today. W: Oh, hello, Mr. Morrison. The doctor said he’d be able to go back to work tomorrow. M: Please tell him there is no hurry. I’ve had Stan Johnson to take his job for a while. Text 3 W: Where did you say you found this bag? M: It was lying under a big tree between the park and the apartment building. W: You’re very lucky. Be careful next time. Text 4 W: The lecture this morning was so boring. M: I’ll say I had one eye on the clock the whole time. Text 5 W: Look! The room is full of smoke. I can hardly breathe. M: I agree. Smoking is bad for the patients. So it should not be permitted here. Text 6 W: Yes, Simon. What can I do for you? M: I’d appreciate some advice, Miss Lee. W: Advice on what? M: I have a problem. I study hard, but my results are below standard this term. What would you advise me to do? W: You’ve got a part time job, haven’t you? M: Yes, I have. Do you think I ought to give it up? W: Yes. If I were you, I’d stop working. Maybe you’re trying to do too much, and it has a bad effect on your studies. M: You are right. Thank you. Text 7 M: Is this a picture of all your family members? W: Right, it was taken 13 years ago. M: You and your father are much alike. W: Thanks. But he has passed away. M: What a pity! Your mother must be very tired to support such a big family. W: Yeah, I must owe my success to my mother. M: You live with your grandparents? W: Right, in this way my mother can look after them. M: Hard to believe. After your dad left? W: Yeah, my grandmother has a heart disease. M: Your mother is great. What is she? W: She is a doctor in Washington Hospital. M: No wonder you are so excellent. W: She is really a great woman. She works hard for the big family. M: Your grandmother looks like a teacher. W: You guessed it. She taught for 30 years and she retired five years ago. Text 8 M: Anna, you look so strong and healthy, quite different from what you used to be. How I envy you! W: I think you might hear the saying: “A sound mind dwells in a sound body.” I have always tried my best to keep fit for both my study and work. M: You are right. Can you give me some tips as to how to keep fit? W: For my part, the best way to keep fit is to go in for sports. M: What kind of sports do you take part in? W: I go swimming once a week, even in cold winter. M: I used to swim in high school, but I don’t have time any more. W: That’s too bad. Exercise is really important for our health. M: I know. I’m getting a bit fat. And I’m short of breath when going upstairs. W: That’s a bad sign. I think you need more exercise. Well, I’m going swimming tonight. Do you want to go with me? M: Well. I really need to get in shape again. Text 9 W: Well, what do you think of the movie? M: I really enjoyed it. How about you? W: I liked it, too. The last part was really exciting. M: Yes, it was. And now I’m really hungry. Let’s have something to eat. W: OK. What do you want to eat? M: Anything is good with me. Do you like Chinese food? W: Yes, but I had Chinese food last night. M: Well, then, what about curry and rice? W: I’m sorry, but I don’t like curry and rice that much. What about pizza? M: That sounds good. Do you know any good pizza places around here? W: Yes, there is one near here. Text 10 When young people get their first real jobs, they may face a lot of problems. They may find everything is different from things at school. It is also possible that they will feel uncomfortable in both professional and social situations. Eventually, they realize that university classes can’t be the only preparation for all of the different situations in the working world.Perhaps the best way to learn how to behave in the working world is to identify a worker you admire and observe his behavior. In doing so, you will be able to see what it is that you admire in this person. For example, you will observe how he acts in a crisis. Perhaps even more important, you will be able to see his approach to everyday situations. While you are observing your colleague, you should be asking yourself whether his behavior is like yours and how you can learn from him. By watching and learning from a model, you will probably begin to identify and form good working habits. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
