六、书面表达:

I, like my classmate LiLong, used to be poor in English. I was so tired of it that I was considering abandoning it. Noticing my helplessness, my English teacher came up to inspire me, saying, “Rome was not built in a day. Time and hard-work are necessary for learning English”. He then gave me some advice on how to improve my English and encouraged me to struggle.

I began to change my way of learning English and worked hard day and night. My spare time witnessed my listening, reading , writing, and reciting English. Gradually, I found myself interested in English. After two years of struggle, I improved my English a lot. Now, not only can I speak English fluently, but I can also perform very well in various exams. However, Li Long remains very weak for his inaction and discouragement.

From my experience, I realized “No pains, No gains”. It’s never too late to work hard for your dream, once you insist on acting, you will sooner or later reach your goal.

听力材料

(Text 1)

M: What did Jenny think of the new film last night?

W: I have no idea about that because she hasn’t been around this morning.

(Text 2)

M: There used to be a lot of fish in the lake when its water was clean.

W: But there are very few now.

(Text 3)

W: In my opinion, children watch too much TV. It’s bad for their health.

M: I couldn’t agree more. It’s really a problem.

(Text 4)

W: This is the third time you have been late for class this week, Tom.

M: I am so sorry, Madam.

W: You will have to be earlier next time, or I might find it necessary to call your parents.

M: It won’t happen again, I promise.

(Text 5)

M: Helen, do you have a meeting in Edinburgh?

W: Yeah, I’m going to see some important people there. Why?

M: I’ m going to visit Glasgow on Wednesday and it’s quite near Edinburgh.

W: Ah … I’m going to drive there tomorrow, so you can go with me.

(Text 6)

W: Hi, John. what happened to you?

M: An accident happened to me. Somebody knocked into my car.

W: Are you hurt?

M: Not seriously. I' m afraid I would have broken my legs if it wasn't for my seat belt.

W: How did it happen?

M: I tried to stop to avoid hitting a bicycle, but a truck behind me couldn't stop because the driver was driving so fast and close.

W: It's obvious that the truck driver is to blame.

M: That's right. He got his head hurt. See you later. I have to get my car repaired now.

(Text 7)

M: Paulanar Restaurant. Head waiter. Good morning.

W: I’d like to book a table for two.

M: And is that for today, madam?

W: Of course.

M: At what time, madam?

W: Oh, about three o’clock, I suppose.

M: I’m afraid we only serve lunch till 3 pm, madam.

W: Oh, well, two o’clock then, and it must be by a window.

M: Very good. And what name, please?

W: White. Mrs. Linda White.

M: Very good, Mrs. White. A table for two at 2 pm, today.

(Text 8)

M: Hello! I wonder if you could help me. I've just arrived here, and I need to find somewhere to stay.

W: Uh-huh.

M: Can you tell me where I can find a cheap hotel?

W: Certainly. There are a few around here. The nearest and one of the nicest is just around the corner. It’s called the Euro Hotel. Should I phone to see if they have a room for you?

M: No, that’s OK. I’11 just walk there myself. Ah!Another thing,I need to change some money, but I don’t know what time the banks close.

W: They close at seven o’clock in the evening.

M: OK. Thank you very much.

(Text 9)

W: Are you busy tomorrow night? I ’m going over to the Workers ’Club for volleyball if you’d like to come along.

M: Isn’t that far away?

W: Not really. If you take the No.3 bus, you can get there in 10 minutes. And if volleyball doesn’t interest you, they’ve got a huge indoor swimming pool, a weight room, and indoor tracks. It’s a great place to meet people.

M: Now that you mentioned it, it would be nice to get away from the computer center for a change, and I really should get some more exercise. Working up a sweat in a ballgame or the weight room would be nice. I’ve got so fat.

W: Look at me – you are not the only one. In high school, I had a lot more time to do sport activities. Now what little spare time you have must be used in doing exercise. At least the club is open until 12p.m.

M: I guess it ’s worth a visit. Did you say you 're going tomorrow night?

W: Yeah.

M: Ok. I’ll come too. How about meeting me at the cinema at 8, and we’ll catch the bus there.

W: Sure, see you then.

(Text 10)

My parents ran a small restaurant. The restaurant was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And my first job when I was six years old was shining shoes for customers. My duties increased as I grew older. By age ten I was clearing tables and washing plates. My father made it clear that I had to meet certain standards. I had to be on time, hard-working and polite to the customers. I was never paid for any work I did. One day I made a mistake of telling Dad I thought he should give me ten pounds a week. He said, “OK. Then how about you paying me for the three meals a day when you eat here and for the times you bring in your friends for free drinks?” He figured I owed him about 40 pounds a week. This taught me quite a lot.
