In the United States, 30 percent of the adult population have a “weight problem”. To many people, the cause is clear: we eat too much. But scientific evidence (科学证明) does little to support this idea. Going back to the America of 1910, we find that people were thinner than today, yet they ate more food. In those days people worked harder physically (体力地), walked more, used machines much less, and didn't watch television.

Several modern studies, moreover (此处) have shown that fatter people don't eat more on average (平均) than thinner people. In fact, some investigations, such as a study of 3 545 London office workers, report that, on balance, fat people eat less than slimmer (苗条的) people.

Studies show that slim people are more active than fat people. A study by a research group at Stanford University School of Medicine found the following interesting facts:

The more the men ran, the more body fat they lost.

The more they ran, the greater amount of food they ate.

Those who ran the most ate the most, yet lost the greatest amount of body fat.

51.What kind of physical problem do many adult Americans have?

A.They are too slim. B. They are too fat.

C.They work too hard. D.They lose too much body fat.

52.According to the passage, if there are 500 adult Americans, ________ people will have weight problems?

A.30 B.150 C.100 D.50

53.Is there scientific evidence to support that eating too much is the cause of a “weight problem”?

A.Yes, there is plenty of evidence.

B.Of course, there is some evidence to show this is true.

C.There is hardly any scientific evidence to support this.

D.We don't know because the information is not given.

54.In comparison (比较) with the adult American population today, the Americans of 1910 ________.

A.ate less food but had more activities

B.ate more food and had more physical activities

C.ate less food and had less physical exercises

D.had more weight problems

Cats are creatures of habit. They like to go to sleep about the same time every day and for a certain length of time. They seem to have a natural clock inside them that tells them when to sleep.

Cats increase their regular sleep with occasional cat naps (打盹). Some experts feel that humans could also benefit from this habit. Cat naps help to build up energy in the body. It is also a good way to get rid of trouble! Since cats have the same moods(情绪) as humans. Some experts believe that people can improve their moods. People might become happier.

A number of famous people have copied cats by taking cat naps during the day. The naps would usually last from 15 to 30 minutes.

Winston Churchill took cat naps. So did Presidents Harry Truman, John F.Kennedy, and Lyndon B. Johnson. These famous men were known for their energy. They were also able to work long hours, often into the night. Napping was their secret.

Perhaps more people could learn from cats and take naps to feel better and live longer!

55.From this passage we know that cats ________.

A.do not have regular sleep

B.have occasional sleep as well as naps every day

C.take naps when they are not h
