Lesson 93 教学设计方案
Step 1 Revision
1 Check the homework exercises.
2 Get Ss to have a dialogue like the
one in Part 2 of Lesson 92, in pairs,
with their books shut.
Step 2 Presentation and discussion
SB Page 67, Part I. Ask Ss to give you
the names of as many jobs as they can
think of, while you write these on the
Bb. Put the Ss in pairs and let them discuss
which of the jobs on the Bb they would
like to do and which jobs they would not
like to do. Get Ss to talk about the picture
and describe what they can see.
Step 3 Reading for general understanding
Read aloud the task and check that Ss
know what to do. Allow the Ss enough time
to read the text and write down their
titles. Collect the titles from the class,
write them on the Bb and invite Ss to
choose the best one.
Step 4 Reading
Ask the following questions on the reading
passage.
How many types of jobs are there in
the world? (About 40,000. )
Does “finding a job” mean the same thing
as “choosing a job ”? (No.)
Is it easy to choose the right one ? (No.)
Haw can you find a job that is suited?
(Recognize what kind of person you are,
which special qualities you have and what
you are interested in; examine your skills
and abilities.)
What kind of research work does the
writer suggest doing ? (To find out different
kinds of work. )
Let the Ss read the whole passage carefully
and answer the questions, working in pairs
or small groups. Check the answers with
the whole class. This is a good time
to deal with any language problems.
Step 5 Reading aloud
Speech Cassette Lesson 93. Play the
tape of the passage for the Ss to listen
and follow. Play the tape of part of the
passage once more; this time the Ss listen
and repeat. Pay attention to stress and
intonation, and the sentence stress of
longer sentences.
Step 6 Discussion
SB Page 68, Part 2. Make sure that you
set aside enough time for this discussion.
Make sure that all the Ss write down the
answers to all the questions before they
begin the discussion phase.
Step 7 Job application form
SB Page 68, Part 3. The purpose of this
task is to make sure that Ss are able
to fill in forms and to help others do
the same. Get Ss to fill in the form and
then exchange them.
Lesson 94 教学设计方案
Step 1 Revision
1 Check the homework exercises.
2 Ask Ss to give you the names of different
subjects that they might study after school,
while you write these on the Bb. Put the
Ss in pairs and let them discuss which
of the subjects on the Bb they would like
to study and which subjects they would
not like to study.
Step 2 Presentation
SB Page 69, Part 1. Tell the Ss Young
people sometimes have problems and disagreements
with their parents. When this happens,
it is a good idea for the young people
to talk to someone, or write to someone.
In this lesson, we have two letters, from
two young people asking for advice.
Step 3 Reading for general understanding
Read aloud the two general comprehension
questions. Allow the Ss enough time to
read the letters and write down the answers.
Put them in pairs to discuss their answers,
then check them with the class. (1 May
wants to study engineering but her father
says this is not a suitable subject for
a girl to study; Joan wants to study in
Australia for a year, but her parents
do not want her to go. 2 May should speak
to her father and ask him to speak to
her teachers; Joan should invite her parents
to celebrate her success with her.)
Step 4 Reading
Ask the following questions about the
letters. What is May interested in? (Engineering.)
What does her father want her to study?
(Geography.) Why doesn't May agree with
her father? (She thinks geography is boring.)
What's Abby's idea? (It is important to
follow her own interests and abilities.
May should have a talk with her father
and explain why she insists on studying
engineering. She should trust her own
thinking. ) What news has Joan got to
tell Abby? (She has got a scholarship
at a university in Australia for her further
education.) What's Joan's parents' attitude?
(They don't want her to leave home.) What
is Abby's advice? ( Joan should try to
educate her parents by inviting them to
celebrate her success with her, make them
realize that it is not right that their
feelings should decide the movements of
their children.) Let the Ss read the whole
passage carefully and answer the questions,
working in pairs or small groups. Check
the answers with the whole class. This
is a good time to deal with any language
problems.
Step 5 Reading aloud
Speech Cassette Lesson 94. Play the
tape for the Ss to listen and follow.
Play the tape of one of the letters once
more; this time the Ss listen and repeat,
Pay attention to stress and intonation.
Step 6 Interview
SB Page 70, Part 2. The aim of this
activity is to give Ss fluency practice
in speaking. Make sure you allow enough
time for this activity. Here is one possible
procedure for doing this activity.
1 Divide the class into groups of four:
managers, receptionists, sales assistants,
editors and journalists.
2 Put the Ss in pairs and get them to
prepare their roles. The people interviewing
need to prepare their questions; the people
being interviewed need to prepare their
answers to possible questions and to prepare
details of any experience they may have
had.
3 Get the Ss to find a different partner
for the interview; managers interview
receptionists / sales assistants and editors
interview journalists.
4 Pairwork: the interview.
5 Get three pairs of good students to
act out their interviews, one for the
hotel job, one for the shop job and one
for the newspaper job.
6 Change. Managers become journalists
and editors become receptionists / shop
assistants. Ss find a new partner and
do another interview which they have not
prepared, but which they have seen demonstrated.
Step 7 Workbook
Wb Lesson 94, Exx. 1- 3.
Ex. 1 can be used as consolidation of
the reading passages (letters). Get the
Ss to make up dialogues in pairs. Then
call out some of them to demonstrate the
dialogues in class.
For Ex. 2, allow the Ss enough time
to prepare their retelling. Then ask some
of them to tell the problems of May and
Joan, and Abby's advice. If there is time,
take up Ex. 3 in class. Discuss the questions
in pairs or groups. Ask Ss to write down
their names and school names and tick
the answers in the questionnaire. Finally
call out some Ss to give their answers
and reasons.
Homework
Read the letters again.
Finish off the Workbook exercises.
Lesson 95 教学设计方案
Step 1 Revision
Check the homework exercises.
Step 2 Grammar study
SB Page 71, Part 1. Go through the Grammar
study section with the class, getting
students to translate the sentences. Draw
attention to any difficult points suggested
below. If students have difficulty, do
not spend too much time explaining. Instead,
prepare a short revision exercise and
produce it in class when you revise the
grammatical category in the lesson.
Step 3 Grammar practice
SB Page 71, Part 2. Do the first sentence
together with the Ss making sure they
know what to do. Teach the new word conceited.
Then get the Ss work in pairs. Check the
answers with the whole class.
Step 4 Workbook
Wb Lesson 95, Exx. 1-2.
Go through the words in the box in Ex.
1 and make sure that the Ss understand
them. Allow them enough time to work in
pairs. Then check the answers with the
whole class.
Do the first two sentences in Ex. 2
with the whole class as a demonstration.
Then get Ss to work in pairs. Check the
answers with the class. Ask Ss to translate
the sentences into Chinese, paying attention
to the different meanings of similar words.
Homework
Finish off the Workbook exercises.
Lesson 96 教学设计方案
Step 1 Revision
Check the homework exercises.
Step 2 Preparation for listening
SB Page 72, Part 1. Wb Listening, Unit
24. Tell the Ss In this conversation,
an editor of a newspaper is talking about
interviewing young people for jobs. Then
read aloud the task in Ex. 1 and make
sure the Ss understand what to do.
Step 3 Listening
Listening Cassette Unit 24. Do each
exercise in turn. Play the tape, then
let Ss discuss their answers in pairs.
Play the tape again if necessary, then
check the answers with the whole class.
Step 4 Speaking
SB Page 72, Part 2. Check the forms:
go through the expressions for making
appointments. Get Ss to practise the expressions
in pairs.
Read through the instruction. Then put
the Ss in pairs and let them decide which
of them is A and which is B. Get the A
Ss to cover B's diary and vice versa.
Tell them: B rings up A. So A answers
the telephone and speaks first. Then let
the Ss do the activity. If you like you
can get a pair of Ss to act out their
dialogue at the end. Note that A and B
can only meet on Tuesday afternoon.
Step 5 Workbook
Wb Lesson 96, Exx. 1-3.
Ex. 1 provides Ss with an opportunity
to read a job advertisement. There are
a few new words in it. Encourage Ss to
guess the meaning or look them up in the
dictionary. Get them to read through the
advertisement. Ask one of them to tell
what kinds of job Asia Hotel can offer
and which they are interested in. They
should give their reasons. Go over the
instruction and the letter of application
for a job in Ex. 2. Ask the Ss to write
a letter of application for the job of
a secretary. Set this for the Ss' homework.
Ex. 3 is a translation exercise that practises
the Adverbial Clause. Do the exercise
first in pairs. Then check the answers
with the whole class.
Step 6 Checkpoint
Go through the Grammar study section
in the previous lesson. Revise Adverbial
Clauses, especially if any Ss had difficulties,
and deal with any language points that
you or the Ss wish to raise.
Step 7 Test
Give the Ss the end of semester test
which you have prepared.
Step 8 Writing
SB Page 72, Part 3. The aim of this
writing task is to practise writing a
business letter. Read through the letter
aloud and check that Ss know what to do.
(Reply, say you cannot come to the interview
on May 18th and suggest other possible
dates.) Check the format of the letter
on the Bb before Ss start to write (see
the sample letter below).
If you like, teach the useful expression
I look forward to hearing from you.
Finally get them to write their letter
either in class or for homework.
