Today’s trains can be a comfortable way to travel long distances quickly. Some train routes may get you from one major city to another major city just as quickly as an airplane could. Taking the train may also be cheaper.

The country leading the way in developing faster and faster trains is China. China has long been a pioneer in the field of high-speed rail. Given China’s large population, high-speed rail allows workers to travel to and from large cities quickly.

While passenger trains generally have to operate at less than top speed capacity for safety reasons, many trains have reached incredible speeds in test runs. For example, the V150 train set a world record for conventional high-speed rail at a blistering (极快的) 357.2 miles per hour. Japan’s MLX01 set the world speed record for a Maglev (磁悬浮的) train at 361 miles per hour.

Soon, though, these tests run speeds may be the norm for passagenger train. China’s CSR Corp, recently tested a new passenger train that can reach a top speed of 311 miles per hour. An advertisement is displayed on a school bus for a district in Thornton, Colorado. In 11 states across the country, school buses are now doing more than just transporting students. They are also serving as rolling billboards. These school buses carry advertisements on the outside. Restaurants, insurance companies, banks, and other businesses pay for the ads, hoping to attract more customers. And it’s a way for the school to make money as they face deep budget cuts.

“We’ve seen a lot of income generated by the ads,” Devra Ashyby told Time for Kids (TFK) . She is the spokesperson for School District 11 in Colorado Speings, Colorado, She is also the mother of a third grader. “With the budget cuts we have experienced, we look at any way that can bring money into the schools.” Last year, District 11 made more than $15,000 form school-bus ads.

School districts need to ensure that the ads are appropriate for kids, according to Michael Beauchamp, chief executive officer Alpha Media. This company works with businesses in several states to create ads for school buses. “The districts won’t allow ads for things like beer, cigarettes, or politics,” Beauchamp told TFK.

But not everyone is in favor of school buses having ads on the outside. That includes Georgia’s Department of Education. Spokeswoman Dorie Nolt told TFK said, “We strongly believe that advertising on the outside of school buses distract drivers and children.”

Parents are divided on the issue. “I don’t think the ads are a distraction, ” said Glemn Hersling of River Vale, New Jersey. His osn is in second grade. “And if they can bring in money for the schools and help save some programs, that’s fantastic. ”

Cindy Tomarchio of East Winsdsor, New Jersey, feels differently. “I know the schools can use the money, but kids already see enough advertising every which way they turn,” she said.

(Reuters)—Up to 20 percent of children in the United States suffer from a mental disorder according to a report released on Thursday by the US Center for disease Control and Prevention.

Children with mental disorders-defined as “serious deviations from expected cognitive, social, and emotional development. ”-often have trouble learning in school, making friends, and building relationships later in life, the report said.

They are more likely to have other chronic (慢性的) health problem, and are at risk for developing mental illnesses as adults.

“This is a great effort by CDC to show mental health is a health issue. As with any health concern, the more attention we give to it, the better.”

“What’s concerning is the number of families affected by these issues. But we can do something about this. Mental health problems are diagnosable, treatable, and people can recover and lead full healthy lives,” Dr. Ruth Perou, the lead author of the study, told Reuters in an interview.

Perou told Reuters more research was needed to determine the specific causes of mental disorders. A host of envionmental factors, including chemical exposure and poverty, can also affect a child’s mental health, she said.

The most common mental health diagnosis, as reported by parents, was Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which affects 6.8 percent of children. Also common were behavioral conduct peoblems (3.5 percent), anxiety, which consists mostly of fears and phobias (3 percent), and depression (2.1 percent). Many of these disorders occur together, the reports said. Boys were found more likely to have most of the listed disorders except for depression and alcohol abuse, which affect more girls.
