Every day we trust school bus drivers to safely transport our children to and from school and any places in between. Most of us probably never give it a second thought. I just read an article that explains how a 17-year-old passenger on a school bus prevented a traffic accident which would certainly have resulted in passengers’ injuries or maybe even deaths.

The school bus driver suffered a heart attack while driving students home from school at the end of the day. The driver did not survive，but all of the students on the bus were spared injury by the quick reaction of this brave teen. She steered(驾驶)the bus to safety and then put it in a parking lot.[]

My immediate thought was about school bus safety. Can this kind of situation be prevented all the time？Probably not！Accidents are accidents，and they cannot all be prevented. But，there are procedures and policies that can be put into practice and may reduce the likelihood of this type of accident.

Every state and every country has regulations regarding drivers. The regulations vary from state to state and country to country，but they all have one thing in common. These regulations are meant for promoting safety.

Peter, a high school student, was pretty busy with school, and he was on the soccer team.

Peter’s father was the sort of guy that believed you had to earn whatever you got，so he wasn’t just about to hand over lots of money for Peter to use to have fun. So，he had to get a job.

What Peter realized with all of these jobs was that he needed a better paying job！The only way to get that was to get trained or educated. He could go to school and get a 2-year degree in an office or technical position. His other choices were going to a 4-year college or joining the army. Some colors that people see late at night could cause signs of the condition mental health experts call clinical depression (临床抑郁症). That was the finding of a study that builds on earlier study findings. They show that individuals who live or work in low levels of light overnight can develop clinical depression.

Doctors use the words clinical depression to describe severe form of depression. Signs may include loss of interest or pleasure in most activities, low energy levels and thoughts of death.

In the new study, American investigators designed an experiment that exposed hamsters (仓鼠) to different colors. The researchers chose hamsters because they are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day and are active at night. The animals were separated into 4 groups. One group of hamsters was kept in the dark during their nighttime period. Another group was placed in blue light, a third group slept in white light. While a fourth was put in red light. After four weeks, the researchers noted how much sugary water the hamsters drank. They found that the more depressed animals drank the least amount of water.
