书面表达:

As an old saying goes, a man is known by the company he keeps. So it is of great importance to associate with those who may have a positive effect on you.

My experience in junior middle school convincingly demonstrates the point. It was at the beginning of the autumn term that I made Henry’s acquaintance and became a friend of his. One day, he said to me mysteriously that he would introduce me a new world. That was the first time I had been exposed to the computer game. From that day on I was frequently dragged into the Internet bar by him, leading to my addiction to it. I still remember the occasion when I was caught skipping class to play computer games and was required to go to my head teacher’s office. There he had a deep conversation with me, without which I wouldn’t have determined to break up with Henry and returned to the normal route.

A friend can influence your behavior in a positive or negative way. On no account can you afford to make a casual choice. Therefore, see to it that you choose your friends cautiously and wisely.

Text 1

W: He stays in his room reading all day. It’s really terrible.

M: That’s true. He never comes and sits with us.

W: At least he’s clean — that’s one good thing, I suppose.

M: Well, that’s true. He doesn’t leave his dirty clothes around. (1)

Text2

M: How did I do this time, Mom?

W: You got a B in chemistry , a C in maths, but those are much better than last semester. (2)You did very well in English: an A, as usual. Oh, and this is a surprise…an A in music!

Text3

M: How much are these shirts?

W: The regular price is $12 each, but we have them on sale today for $8.50.

M: Well, in that case, I’ll take two. (3)

Text4

W: Hey, this beer tastes delicious! I’ve never tasted anything quite like it. Do you know where it was made? (4)

M: All I know is that it comes from the importer beer section of the supermarket, and the bottle looks cool!Oh,and it was on sale!

Text5

M: Now that we’ve written the music, let’s work on the words. (5)

W: How about picking a title first?

M: That should come last, I think. We need to know the subject first.

Text6

W: Dear, I’m a little worried about Jackie. She keeps talking in her sleep at night. (6)

M: She’s only one year old. (6)She can’t even say more than three words yet. What could she possibly say?

W: Well. She isn’t really talking with words, but she’s still saying something. It seems like she’s calling for help. (7)

M: You must be imagining things.

W: I’m not! Why don’t you stay up at night and watch her?

M: Well, maybe I will. And what do you think we should do about it if she really is talking in her sleep? Isn’t that normal for babies?

W: I don’t know! Maybe we should take her to a doctor.

Text7

M: Come sit next to me on my sofa. Something really embarrassing happened to me on the subway today.

W: What?

M: Well, I was sitting down. A whole bunch of people came on the train, including this mother and daughter. The mom was probably in her late 40s or early 50s, and the daughter was maybe half her age. I thought the younger woman was pregnant, so I offered my seat to her. (8)

W: Well, that was nice of you. Not enough people do that these days.

M: But that’s the thing. She wasn’t pregnant!

W: Uh-oh!

M: You said it! When I said something about the baby , she just looked away angrily. I was so embarrassed that I wanted to die!

W: So, what happened after that?

M: I tried to apologize, but that just made it worse! (9)I got off at the next stop just so I didn't have to be there next to her.

Text8

W: Do you think Adam is smarter than his brother?

M: That’s a strange question .Brad is a smart guy, just like Adam. But they’re into different things.

W: Right, but I always thought twins were supposed to share the same genes. (11)That should mean that Adam and Brad have similar intelligence levels. But have you ever noticed that Brad never seems to say much?

M: Well, Adam talk too much, in my opinion. (10)

W: But at least he has interesting opinions on different issues. I always enjoy having heated debates with him after class. (10)But Brad just listens. He doesn’t say anything most of the time.

M: Have you ever thought that maybe Brad is the genius in the family?

W: Never! Why would I ?

M: Well, I happen to know that Brad has written a novel about teenagers in New York. It’s mostly based on all of us and it’s getting published by a major book company! (12)

W: Really? That’s amazing!

M: I also heard that it’s getting made into a film. Brad sold the movie rights to a Hollywood studio for $50,000. He hasn’t even started college yet, and he’s already rich compared to a lot of people!

Text9

W: Thank you for coming in today, Mr. Benedict. So I can see from your resume that you’ve had a lot of different jobs, but you’ve changed jobs very often. (13)You haven’t had a fixed job over the past five years. And you don’t have any experience doing research.

M: I know I could do a good job here.

W: Why is that?

M: I’m very organized … I’m a good team player …and, um … I like working outside.

W: What does working outside have to do with this position? You’d be in a lab. You wouldn’t see any sunlight some days.

M:Sorry. I must have…

W: Written it down wrong on your hand? (14)

M: Uh… yeah. (14)

W: I thought I saw something on there. Is that how you prepare for an interview, Mr. Benedict? (14)

M: Look, I’ll be honest with you. I was up until four in the morning working on my resume. I have three more interviews this afternoon, and I already had two before lunch. I really need a job so I can save some money for my little sister’s education. She’s disabled, and my dad lost his job yesterday. (15)

W: I’m sorry to hear that.

M: I don’t think I’m making a very good impression here, and I don’t want to waste your time, so …

W: Wait a minute, Mr. Benedict. You might not be a good fit for this position, but I have a colleague who is doing a different research project that does involve working outside. Here is his number. I’ll put in a good word for you. (16)

Text10

Santa Cruz is a town on the California Coast with some of the best views of the Pacific Ocean anywhere. (17)The town of 80,000 people, which is not small by American standards, lies on California Route 1, a long and winding highway that goes from Canada to Mexico along the water’s edge. Santa Cruz lies at the bottom of a two-thousand-foot mountain, and is surrounded by a forest. There are also many hills around town, and there is a University of California campus at the top of one of the hills. Many students come to UCSC just for the beautiful scenery, (18)but the environmental science program is also one of the best in the nation . Santa Cruz was an important trading town back in the early 20th century. The road that carried horses and coaches passed right through on its way up to San Francisco, which is about 75 miles to the north. It remains an important source of fish and farming equipment today. Because the water is very cold in this part of the Pacific Ocean, the beaches near Santa Cruz are better for surfing than for swimming. (19)Perhaps the most fun place to be in Santa Cruz is at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, a one-mile-long amusement park with rides, games, restaurants, and concerts…all right on the beach!(20)The Boardwalk is open on weekends in spring and fall, and every day in summer. The best thing about the Boarding is that it's free to enter!
