听力原文:

Text 1

M: Your Japanese friend speaks English very well, Jenny.

W: Well, he is Chinese actually. He’s been here in the US on business.

Text 2

M: Mr. Baker is in hospital again.

W: I’m sorry to hear that. He should stop smoking right now.

Text 3

M: Would you mind turning down the TV a bit? I’m answering the phone.

W: Not at all.

Text 4

M: Steve won the medal in the high jump last year. Why didn’t he join the game this time?

W: Don’t you know he hurt his foot when he was getting ready for the sports meeting?

Text 5

M: I met Sam on the street today.

W: Really? Did he say anything about his sister Helen?

M: Yes. She is leaving New York very soon, because her husband has taken a job in Los Angeles.

Text 6

M: Hello, Jenny. This is Tom.

W: Oh, Tom. How are you?

M: Fine, thank you. Uh, are you available on Saturday night?

W: Hmm, let me think. Oh, I’m afraid not. My grandfather will come on that day. He will arrive at about

7 pm. And I promised to meet him at the station.

M: Oh, what a pity! Jack’s birthday is on Saturday. Amy and I are going to have dinner with him and we

thought we could invite more friends to hold a birthday party.

W: I’m really sorry. But I’m afraid I won’t be able to go.

M: It’s a pity, but that’s OK.

Text 7

M: Hi, Mary. Do you want to start writing the lab report after we finish this experiment?

W: I can’t. I actually need to leave early because I’m meeting Professor Sogard about a job opening.

M: What? Like a job on campus or something?

W: Yeah. And it sounds pretty interesting. It’s all about how people study... you know, what kind of

learning style they prefer.

M: Yeah, that sounds like it’d be perfect for you. So now, the big question: are you getting paid for this?

W: I’m sure we’ll get a little something, but probably not much. Anyway, it doesn’t matter to me. The

most important thing is to get some experience, you know?

M: Yeah. And it’ll be nice to help those high school students, too.

W: That’s what I thought when I saw the ad. But you know what? You could do it, too.

Text 8

W: The Painting Club. Can I help you?

M: Yes. I’d like to ask about the painting classes.

W: OK. We have some classes starting from the week of February 20th for seven weeks, twice a week.

M: How much does it cost?

W: $140. That’s $10 for each lesson.

M: How much does it cost if I am a member of the Painting Club?

W: It’s half price. Members pay half.

M: I see.

W: And classes start in February. You can come to put your name down on February 16th or 17th if you

have decided to attend the classes.

M: OK, thank you.

W: You’re welcome.

Text 9

W: Excuse me, sir. Would you like a free taste of our new spaghetti with tomato sauce?

M: Oh, uh, sure. Why not? Emm… That’s pretty good.

W: I’m glad you like it! This is part of our frozen dinners.

M: Wait, this is frozen? I can’t believe it! It tastes better than anything I can make at home.

W: The pasta is handmade, and the sauce is made from only the finest tomatoes. It’s based on a classic

recipe from the south of Italy.

M: How much is this, anyway?

W: It’s only $4 for two servings.

M: Fantastic! I’m gonna pick some up right now. Where can I find it?

W: Just behind me, next to the frozen pizzas. Look for the bright yellow stickers that say“New”.

M: Great! Hey, um, can I ask you a question?

W: Sure.

M: Do you think it would be all right if I had just one more of those samples? I didn’t have a chance to

eat lunch.

W: Take as many as you want.

Text 10

Paul, a salesman from London, was driving past a sports car parked outside a supermarket, when he saw it start to roll slowly down the hill. Inside the car were two young girls on the passenger seat, but no driver. Paul stopped quickly, jumped in front of the sports car and tried to stop it, pushing against the front of the car. Another man who was standing nearby got into the car and put on the handbrake, saving the girls from injury.

It was at this point that Paul noticed his own car rolling slowly down the hill and going too fast for him to stop it. It crashed into a bus at the bottom of the hill and was so badly damaged that it had to be pulled away to a garage.

As if this was not bad enough, Paul now found he had no one to blame. He was so busy chasing his car that he didn’t get the name of the driver of the sports car, who just came out of the supermarket and drove away without realizing what had happened.
