四、One possible version

Everyone has a person he wants to say thank you to in his deep heart. I owe my great gratitude to my mother.

My mother is a primary school teacher who graduated from a teachers college. She is a devoted mother as well as a kind and patient teacher. Every day, she attends to me considerately, especially this year when I am in Senior Three. She often cooks delicious dishes for me and helps me clean up my room. What’s more, she even accompanies me deep into the night every time I am doing my homework. Most important of all, whenever I get upset or lose heart, she will comfort me and encourage me until I have cheered up. I appreciate her motto “ Heaven will always leave a door open. As long as you work hard, you will definitely succeed.”

So now I spare no efforts in studying and focus all my attention on my lessons in order to be admitted to a famous university next year, so that I can reward my mother.

M: Do you have any plans for the weekend, Dorothy. Would you like to join me for an outing?

W: Thanks, but I am going to work on my paper all weekend. Text2 W: So what did you buy? M: A T-shit, it was a real bargain. I got it half price, saving 15 dollars. Text3 M: I am going to the museum Sunday afternoon. There is a new exhibition of Indian art. Want to come with me? W: I’d love to, but my best friend is getting married on Sunday, and I won’t miss it for anything. Text4 W: National Bank, can I help you? M: Yes, please. What are your business hours? W: We open at 9:00 and close at 4:00 during the week, on Saturday we close one hour earlier at 3:00, and we are closed on Sunday. Text5 W: May I help you, sir. M: Yes, I seem to have lost my room key. W: In that case, you need to go to the front desk to get another one. Text 6 W: Hey, where is everybody? M: They took Ben to the park. Where have you been? W: Sorry, I’m late. I picked up the cake and it took me longer than I expected. When will the party start? M: Ben invited eight children from school. And they’ll arrive at about 2 in the afternoon.

W: OK. Then I’ll put the candles on the cake and leave it in the kitchen and then I’ll come and help set the table. Text 7

W: How did you like the dishes, Sir?

M: Delicious. Everything was excellent here. Thank you!

W: Do you want some coffee, tea, sir?

M: No. thanks, I’m fine. Ah, just have the bill, please. How much is your service’s charge?

Text 8

M: Can you give me some tips of a coming interview?

W: The first thing is to try to make a good impression.

M: How do I do that?

W: First, firmly shake the interviewer's hand, while greet him or her with a smile. Be sure to keep eye contact.

M: Body language is really important, isn't it?

W: Yes, the second thing is to have confidence. You get confidence from being prepared.

M: What should I do for that?

W: Learn a little bit about the company before the interview. Also think of possible questions and answers.

M: Should I recite my answers?

W: No, you should sound natural when you speak.

M: Should I ask about the salary?

W: No, either let them bring out the topic of money or else wait for a second interview.

Text 9

W: Hi, Joe, many people in our department are leaving for Thanksgiving. What are you going to do?

M: I think I’ll just stay at home. I may see some friends and watch a few DVDs. And I probably would go to the Ottawa Car Show. What about you, Ariel? What’s your plan?

W: I am going to do some traveling with my family.

M: Oh, where to?

W: Toronto. And on our way, we’re going to visit my aunt Betty, in Kingston.

M: That’s exciting .How long do you plan to stay?

W: Two days, I have a get-together party with my college friends on the tenth in Toronto. Oh, I’m afraid I’ve got to go now.

My husband is waiting for me. And we’ll have to pick up Daniel from school. Have a nice holiday Joe!

M: Thank you. You too.

Text 10 M: We are glad to have Dr. Garfield to talk to us today about dreams. Let me start by asking the first question. Does everyone dream? W: It appears that everyone does. Mostly when people say that they never dream, what they really mean is that they don’t remember their dreams or they don’t think their dreams are important. The reason behind is that they might have been made fun of with a child when they first reported their dreams or it was so frightening that they just turned off dreaming completely. The other day, someone named Davis came to me and said that he used to be a great dreamer, but suddenly he stopped having dreams. I asked him what it happened. It turned out that his brother died by heart attack and he never expected that such a terrible thing would happen to a young person. Generally, when there was some frightening event and dream about it was too terrible. People prefer not to dream about it. Actually the worst thing you can do is stop dreaming. Because it means that the bad experience would be too painful to even appear in dreams. As long as you dream about it and even the dream is frightening, your mind is working on it. My personal opinion about what dreams do is that they help us deal with our problems. We see certain patterns take place in dreams. When a person is hurt deep inside, when a person is seriously ill or when a person has been really sad, if people turn off their dreams totally, it means they don’t love themselves to even think about it.
