英语月考三参考答案

听力

Text 1

M: What a beautiful day! I’ve never seen the sun shine like this!

W: Well, enjoy it while it lasts. Tomorrow, it’s supposed to get cooler.

Text 2

M: When will the train from Boston arrive?

W: It was scheduled to be here at 9:15, but now it is expected to be 15 minutes behind schedule.

Text 3

M: I just don’t understand what’s the matter with Emily. One minute everything was going great, and the next she just walked out of the restaurant.

W: Next time, you shouldn’t tell a lady that she should go on a diet.

Text 4

W: Tom, would you come here to help me clean the dining room? Your sister is busy in the garden.

M: Sorry, Mom. I am doing my homework now.

Text 5

M: Congratulations! You got the highest grade in the whole class. You must have been working hard for a long time.

W: You must be thinking of someone else. I’m still waiting for my grades.

Text 6

W: So I want a designer wedding dress, roses and lilies at every table, and, let me see, what else... oh, yeah, I want The Killers to play at the reception!

M: So how many people do you want to invite?

W: Well, two hundred should be enough. You will want to invite some people too, I suppose, so three hundred, tops.

M: Where are we going to have this celebration, my dear?

W: Let’s have it at the Conservatory of Flowers! It’s such a beautiful building!

M: Doesn’t it cost, like, $15000 to rent?

W: Well, yeah, but it’s worth it!

M: I would be happy with a simple ceremony with our families and close friends.

Text 7

M: Mrs. Boddington, take a seat, please.

W: Thank you, Mr. Wilshire. Nice to see all of you again.

M: Mrs. Boddington, do you know why you are here?

W: Well, I suppose you want to talk to me about my, uh, unusual teaching methods, right?

M: Um, in a way, yes, Mrs...

W: I knew this would happen! I’m sorry, but the way we learned math when we were in school just doesn’t cut it with the kids of today. They need more hands-on learning, more special projects, and more in-your-face instruction.

M: We know. And that’s what we wanted to talk to you about.

W: I’ll be happy to bring this up with the principal if necessary.

M: Well, you can talk with him when he gets here in a minute. But I wanted to be the first to congratulate you on your promotion to Head of the Math Department.

W: Oh... Well, in that case... thank you very much!

Text 8

M: Hi. I think I’m sitting next to you. Seat 35B, see?

W: Oh, sorry. I’ll just move my things. Hold on a minute.

M: Thanks. I’ve been waiting at the gate for ages.

W: The flight was delayed leaving Beijing, too. Security checks, you know. Are you going to London, then?

M: Yes. I’m going to LSE to do a master’s in International Relations.

W: Really? That sounds interesting. You must be really clever.

M: So, are you going to London too?

W: Well, actually, I’m going to the University of Middlesex to do Business Studies.

M: That sounds interesting.

W: Well, actually, it’s my parents who want me to do Business Studies. I’d rather study Philosophy, but my dad wants me to take over the family business. He thinks it will make me rich.

M: Well, nobody wants to be poor... ah, here’s the drink trolley. What would you like?

W: A Coke, please. I’m sorry... I don’t know your name...

M: Oh, I’m Paul.

Text 9

M: Hey, I just finished reading a great book. It’s about Steve Jobs!

W: Really? But there are so many books about him now. What makes the one you read so special?

M: Well, the one I read is by Walter Isaacson — it’s different from the others because Steve Jobs himself asked Isaacson to write it.

W: Hmm, were they friends or something?

M: Well, they knew each other well because Isaacson used to work for Time Magazine in the 1980s and he wrote about Apple products — but it was mostly a business relationship, I think.

W: So, what’s the book about?

M: Oh, his entire life. There’s a lot of personal information about Steve Jobs because so many people, including his wife, kids, and closest co-workers, agreed to be interviewed only for this particular book.

W: It sounds interesting. Did you learn anything that really surprised you?

M: I always knew he was a tough person, but I was amazed at how sensitive he was. He actually cries a lot in the book!

W: Really? Wow, I should definitely take a look!

Text 10

Here is your local news report. First Republic Bank on Jackson Avenue was robbed yesterday by a man with a cell phone. Apparently, the robber stated that unless the bank agreed to give him what he asked for, he would instruct his partner on the phone to kill a young girl who had been taken prisoner. The robber left with about $20000 in cash. Two baby whales that were trapped in Stevens Bay over the weekend finally managed to find their way back to the ocean. Some local fishermen had placed large amounts of fish in the water behind their boats, hoping that the whales would follow them toward open water. In the end, strong winds and the resulting tides helped the whales get back home. In entertainment news, Friday night’s motorcycle show will continue as planned despite concerns about safety. Last month, a rider was seriously injured when he fell off his motorcycle while trying to perform a dangerous trick. Riders have all signed forms that release the city from any legal responsibility if they get hurt, and medical staff will be on scene as usual during the show.
