Campus（大学）libraries are busy places during this exam season．Students go because it’s a quiet place where they can concentrate on their studies．Obviously，it is the kind of “study environment” that everyone needs．

But compared to the rooms full of people during the “peak season”，libraries aren’t so popular at other times．According to a China Survey Network poll last Friday，more than 73 percent of students are going to the library less than once a week．

“Actually，university libraries are much more fun and richer in resources than most students think．They can even be a fashionable place,” says Zhu Qiang，chief librarian at the Beijing University Library．In Zhu’s library，students not only read or check databases online，they also listen to music and watch movies for free．Many libraries now have multimedia rooms with music and video equipment．“When I felt tired，I walked out to listen to some music,” said Zhou Jianzhi，22，a senior in Chinese language and literature at Beijing University，pointing to a CD player in the corridor．“The songs are updated every week．”

In fact，libraries have been looking for ways to encourage students to use them more．At Guangzhou’s Sun Yat-sen University，students can look for books they want on the library’s homepage，and reserve them．The university has four campuses，and students can ask for a book to be transferred to the nearest one．

And some librarians actually do listen to student requests that the library obtain a copy of their favorite book．Zhou Jianzhi from Beijing University likes getting fashion magazines like Rayli and Elle in the reading room．

“There’s a suggestion board on our website where students can recommend books and magazines” , said Zhu．“We read these recommendations every day．If a book or magazine has been mentioned several times by different students，we’ll buy it．”

Students also have access to online resources．Xie Yi，22，a senior in English at Communication University of China，says he almost “fell in love” with the library database when he was working on his thesis this semester．

“All I had to do was log onto the system with my student account，then search with key words．I could copy an essay and read it in my dorm，which was very helpful in my study．”

The only question is: With so many resources，how do you know which to choose? Not to worry．Almost every school library has an introductory lecture on how to use the facilities．
