Once upon a time, there was a forest where all the animals lived happily together. One day a family went to spend the day in the countryside, and one little boy left his socks there. Soon after

16 family left, a racoon(浣熊) came by, found the socks, and decided to try them on. They fit so 17 (perfect), and he liked them so much, that he wouldn't take them off. He spent his days walking through the forest in his new socks.

All the animals talked 18 the racoon's new look, and some of them were a bit envious that he was getting so much attention. Before long, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in boots, moles(鼹鼠) with hats on, and even a bird 19 (wear) underpants!

Doctor Bear, the forest physician, would shake his head, telling people:“ 20 can’t be good. Animals don’t wear clothes; we don’t need them.”But no one listened to him, they said he was just old-fashioned, and ignorant of the latest trends. 21 , it wasn’t long before the first consequences of fashion-fever began to take effect. II 阅读理解 (共两节,满分50分)

第一节 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

A

A fellow speaker from California named Geri flew to Japan, in her favourite jeans and a casual jacket, to give her first speech. Fourteen hours later, four perfectly dressed Japanese gentlemen greeted her at Narita Airport. Smiling and bowing low, they handed her their business cards. With her bag in one hand, Geri took their cards with the other. She thanked them, glanced briefly at the cards, and put them into her jeans pocket quickly.

When the five of them arrived at the hotel, they invited Geri to tea in the lobby (大厅). While sipping tea, the gentlemen presented her with a small gift which she eagerly opened. She was thrilled with the gift and shouted excitedly, “Oh, it’s beautiful!”

At this point, the four Japanese gentlemen stood up and, bowing only very slightly, said “Sayonara” and left immediately. Poor Geri was left astonished. What did she do wrong?

Everything! Her jeans were the first gaffe. Even if you're coming off a bicycle in Japan, you do not meet clients (客户) casually dressed. The second mistake was Geri's handling of their business cards rudely. In Japan, the business card is one of the most important communicative tools. It is always presented and accepted respectfully with both hands. However, Geri put their cards away much too quickly. In Japan, people use business cards as a conversation starter. You chat about each other's cards and work and do not put theirs away until they gently and respectfully place yours in safe keeping. Putting it carelessly into her jeans pocket was the ultimate disrespect.

Then, the fourth horror of horrors was that Geri should not have opened the gift in front of her clients. In a land where saving face is critical, it would be embarrassing to discover the gift they gave was not as nice as the one they received. What is worse, Geri hadn't even given them a gift!

26. In the four Japanese gentlemen’s eyes, Geri took their cards ________.

A. politely B. excitedly C. disrespectfully D. embarrassingly

27. Why did the four Japanese gentlemen leave Geri suddenly?

A. Because they had finished the task.

B. Because Geri felt embarrassed.

C. Because Geri had something more important to do.

D. Because they couldn't bear Geri's behaviour any longer.

28. In Paragraph 4, the underlined word “gaffe” is closest in meaning to ________.

A. ignorance B. error C. sadness D. carelessness

29. The third mistake Geri made was that she ________.

A. met her clients in jeans B. used her own card as a conversation starter

C. took her clients’ cards with one hand D. kept her clients’ cards in a wrong place

30. What lesson can we draw from this story?

A. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. B. Honesty is the best policy.

C. Think twice before you take any action. D. Don’t claim to know what you don’t know.

When Danny Bowman was at school, he was so desperate to attract girls, he spent 10 hours a day taking more than 200 selfies(自拍) trying to find the perfect image.

But his addiction, which began at the age of 15, caused him to drop out of school and lose almost 7 kilogrames in weight. He would take 10 photos of himself before he washed and would sneak out of class three times every hour. At 16, he dropped out of school so he could focus on his addiction, and his appetite became worse.

He did not leave his house in Newcastle upon Tyne for six months, and when he failed to take the flawless shot, he tried to kill himself by taking an overdose.

The 19-year-old believed to be Britain’s first selfie addict, has now had therapy to treat his technology addiction, OCD (强迫性神经官能症) and Body dimorphic disorder — an excessive anxiety about personal appearance.

He has not taken a picture of himself in seven months, and has realized that achieving perfection is impossible. He told the Sunday Mirror:“I was constantly in search of taking the perfect selfie and when I realized I couldn’t, I wanted to die. I lost my friends, my education, my health and almost my life. The only thing I cared about was having my phone with me so I could satisfy the urge to capture a picture of myself at any time of the day.”He would look at photos of his“idol”Leonardo Di Caprio and would then copy his poses. Danny’s dream was to become a male model.

The selfie craze has grown in past five years, with stars, politicians and even Pope Francis posting getting involved in the sensation. But one psychologist at a clinic where Danny was treated said the addiction with taking selfies has now become a mental illness. Now determined to raise awareness of the anxiety disorder, Danny is working with Fixers---a?national?charity helping young people to“fix”the issues that bother them. He said
