However, it is what we do afterwards that matters. Mistakes in my study usually result from two aspects. For one thing, I often make some mistakes when taking exams as a result of being careless. For another, there are occasions when I am unable to grasp the knowledge and skills that are needed for solving a problem, but I ‘m just too lazy to make it out so that mistakes might occur. In my opinion, mistakes can be regarded as a friend of ours because we can learn from them. As for me, I often make a summary of the causes of mistakes after making them, and in this way I will become more careful to avoid making similar mistakes again. 附听力原文: Text 1: W: Excuse me, Sir? How long can I keep this book? M: Well, as long as three months. Please make sure you return it or renew it before it’s due. Text 2: W: Donny, it’s already 9:00. You’re late again for class. Didn’t you set your alarm o’clock? M: Yes, I did set it at 8:00. But it somehow went off half an hour later. Text 3: M: I heard on the radio that it’ll be sunny during the weekend. Maybe we can take a trip to London. W: Sounds great. I’ll call Emily to see if she likes to join us. Text 4: W: Bob, it’s nearly 7:30. You might set out right now to get the early bus… M: Don’t worry. I’ll drive to the railway station. W: In that case, take me for a ride. And you can drop me off at Victoria Stop. Then I can walk to the open market. Text 5: W: Hello, is that Mr. Lewis? M: Yes, speaking. W: This is Mary from Dr. Michael’s office. I just want to remind you of your appointment with Dr. Michael. M: Oh, I almost forgot. Thank you very much. W: So, we’ll see you at 10 on Friday. Text 6: M: Is there any breaking news in today’s newspaper? W: Li Na, China’s superstar, retires from tennis! M: Really? How come? W: She announced her retirement via Sina Weibo on Friday morning and will meet reporters on September 21(Sunday) in Beijing. The 32-year-old skipped the US Open in July this year and other hard-court tournaments afterwards because of knee injuries. M: What a pity! The news will surely make her long-waiting fans' mouth wide-open. Text 7: W: Do you want to attend a drag show? M: What is it? W: It’s a special kind of performance where men dress up as women and women dress up as men, singing and dancing and telling jokes, just like your favorite Peking Opera, where many characters are played by the opposite sex. M: But it sounds quite different. Why would anyone want to see it? W: Maybe just for fun. Drag shows are very popular in America at the present time. M: But it really doesn’t sound like my cup of tea. W: Well, suit yourself. I’ll ask Mark if he wants to go. Text 8: W: Can I help you, sir? M: Yes. My wife bought this camera here for my daughter’s birthday. But it doesn’t work. So I’d like to change it for another one. W: I see. Let me have a look. Well, we’ll be happy to change it for you. But I am afraid we don’t have another blue one. M: Oh? What will I do then? W: Would you like to choose a different color? We do have this camera in black and pink. M: My daughter doesn’t like either of those colors. W: If you want, we can order another camera just like this one. There wouldn’t be any extra charge for it. M: That sounds fine. Would you please go ahead and do that? W: We’d be very happy to but it’ll take at least a week. Maybe ten days. We’ll call you when it comes in. M: Thank you very much. W: You are welcome. Text 9: M: Well, there’s been a lot of talk and discussion lately about Tiger Mothers—mothers who demand perfection from their children and control every minute, every thought, and every relationship in their children’s lives, particularly some Chinese mothers. And today in our studio we have a special guest from China—Wang Lan. She’ll share something on parenting with us. W: Good evening, everyone. That’s a good question for me. I am the product of a Tiger Mother. I used to do exactly what my mother told me to. I really hated all those extra lessons. I wanted to have fun, choose my friends, and play sports. She had a complete plan for my life and I had no say in it. M: So, is that how you’re raising your child? W: Yes and no. Yes, I am successful in that I graduated from a famous university, married a successful businessman, and have a well-paid job. But when I think of my awful childhood, I’ve decide to have a happy son rather than a successful one. Perhaps if he is happy, he’ll be successful too. If he enjoys what he does, then he’ll do it well; I won’t have to push him to do it… Text 10: The gaokao reform plan has finally been announced, with changes in the testing and enrollment system introduced for fairness. In a press release on Sept 4, the Information Office of the State Council announced five changes to the current gaokao, or college entrance exams. Currently, it’s common to see students from different places take different gaokao exam papers. But starting in 2015, more provinces and regions will use the same papers for each subject. Also, students with special ability in the arts and sports will no longer be awarded any bonus points. In recent years, some universities have started independent enrollment, examining excellent students ahead of the gaokao. The reform will ask them to do this after the gaokao. Similarly, students will fill in applications after they take the gaokao. Besides the changes that will take effect in 2015 across the country, the plan also announced bigger changes to the testing system. But these changes will first only be for students taking the gaokao in 2017 in two pilot regions: Shanghai and Zhejiang. Those students will not be divided into science and liberal arts directions any more. Subjects except Chinese, math and English will be tested after students finish their classes. They can then choose three of them to be included in their gaokao total score, based on the major and university they apply for. The students can also take English tests twice and choose the higher score to be included in their totals. By doing so, a new testing and enrollment system will be fully applied all over China in 2020, according to the plan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
