三、阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

请阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该选项的标号涂黑。

Imagine having an idea, drawing it on paper, bringing it to a store and seeing it turned into a physical object. This is now possible with the help of 3D printers. Such machines were once used just by universities and big companies, but now, stores with 3D printing services are appearing around the United States.

Bryan Jaycox and his wife opened The Build Shop LLC in Los Angeles two years ago. The store is filled with tools like a laser cutter, an industrial sewing machine and 3D printers. The Jaycoxs offer 3D printing classes and services for anyone who is interested.

“I think 3D printing is going to be huge. It’s going to make a huge impact on society as a whole.”

3D printing services are becoming available for American consumers. The UPS Store is a nationwide retailer that provides shipping, copying and other services. The UPS Store recently put 3D printers in three of its independently-owned stores. Burke Jones owns one of the stores in San Diego.

The UPS Store plans to add 3D printers in three more stores. For $ 11, Jonathan Netter used a 3D printer to produce two small plastic parts as part of a knuckle for a hand. He works for a medical device company, the company is testing finger prosthetics. He says the same-day or next-day printing services will speed up testing of parts and get the devices to patients faster.

An office supply company, Staples is selling 3D printers on its website for as low as about $ 1,300. A cartridge of color plastic costs $50. As with any technology—experts expect the printing speed and price to improve.

Bryan Jaycox requires $ 15 an hour to print an object, and he also charges a fee depending on the size of the object and up to $ 50 an hour for design and labor services. At The UPS Store, the cost of the object depends on the amount of materials used.

36. The underlined sentence suggests________.

A. 3D printing will bring a revolution

B. 3D printing contributes to gathering wealth

C. 3D printing might ham social development

D. Bryan Jaycox felt puzzled at 3D printing’s future

37. In the author’s opinion, 3D printers sold by Staples on its website are________.

A. practical B. unstable C. cheap D. expensive

38. The last paragraph mainly develops________.

A. by comparison B. by listing figures

C. in space order D. in a passive tone

39. What might be the best title for the passage?

A. 3D Printers Changes Society

B. The Popularity of 3D Printers

C. People’s Reaction to 3D Printers

D. 3D Printers Arrived in US Stores

B

Every Tuesday, my daughters have two hours of softball practice. This is when I head around the corner to the library and work on my weekly class newsletter, grade papers and visit Help Others.

I also do acts of kindness. I have put homemade smile cards in library books and also left money with a note at the reference desk to pay someone’s late fines.

Tonight, I attached a homemade smile card to a small bag of chocolates. As I walked into the library, I headed to my usual area near the reference desk and placed the bag on a table. I sat in a chair near the table and did some work.

It was so interesting how quickly the library workers noticed! I heard some say “Hey, did you see that?” as they pointed to the chocolate. The reference worker who I had given the money to pay fines was working there tonight. She noticed me and the familiar blue homemade RAK card and was whispering to explain what I had done previously.

For forty-five minutes, I would type and look up. It was interesting to watch as people slowed to read the card but kept going. I think many felt uncomfortable taking it because it was out in the open. I figured it might take some time, and then I was absorbed in grading papers.

At the end of an hour and half, I packed up to get the girls. As I looked up, I noticed the chocolate was gone! How did I possibly miss someone t
