The students of our school had a discussion about whether the Oral English Test in the National Matriculation English Test should be kept or canceled.

Students who disagree to cancel OET think that as a language, English is a very important tool for communication and listening and speaking are two of the basic linguistic skills which should be paid more attention to. Besides, listening is one of the important channels for us to get information from the outside world while speaking is one of the important ways to express ourselves, so they should be strengthened today when international cooperation is becoming more and more frequent.

On the contrary, students who show disagreement think that cancelling OET can reduce the students’ stress so that they can have more time and energy to learn other objects. In addition, OET is unfair to the students in the underdeveloped areas which are lack of teaching resources, good teaching equipment and conditions. Finally, they think that not everyone has to communicate with foreigners in the future and it still works well as long as they master some reading and writing skills.

I can’t agree more with what the cleaner did. Being thrifty is a good virtue. It’s a shame to waste food.

However, it’s common to find the waste of food, water and electricity among students in our school. Many students throw away the food just because they don’t like it. Besides, many students always wash their clothes with the water running. Some even leave the classroom with all the lights and fans on. Few students are aware of the importance of environmental protection.

To be thrifty and fight against wasting in our daily life, we should raise our awareness of saving energy, which will do good to us in the long run. Besides, we’d better remember to turn off the lights before we leave the classroom. Most importantly, we should form a good habit of being thrifty.
