W:What kind of job are you going to get?ª¤

M:That¡¯s the problem. I¡¯ve tried all the gas stations and the restaurants, but nothing. I¡¯m going to try a few taxi companies tomorrow. I like to drive.ª¤

W:Really? By the way, what do you think of Spain? I went to Spain once and I really liked it. But the place I liked most was Switzerland. I spent two weeks visiting my uncle there.ª¤

M:I hope that I can get to Europe someday. I¡¯ve never been out of the United States.ª¤

M:Certainly! But since you¡¯re feeling down right now, let¡¯s invite some friends and have a barbecue in the park tonight and watch the moon.ª¤

Good afternoon, I want to thank Professor Johnson for giving me the chance to talk to you students today about Alaska. One of the things that concern me most is the future of the Alaskan environment. ª¥

About twenty years ago before going on a research trip, I visited Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. It was then a small city with a population of more or less 40,000, surrounded by forests and mountains. When I made a recent trip to update my earlier work, I found amazing changes. Anchorage now has 180,000 people, more than four times as many as in 1960. There¡¯re high buildings, shopping centers, and all the accompanying crowds and traffic jams. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem reduced by the city¡¯s great size. The discovery of oil in 1968 in the north of Alaska caused many of these changes. The construction of the across Alaska oil pipeline brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to Alaska in a very short period of time. There is not enough housing and transportation. I think Alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaskans need to decide how to develop their natural resources and minerals well without destroying nature and harming the wildlife. ª¥

For today¡¯s lecture, I¡¯ve brought along many of the slides I usually show in my environmental science classes at my own university.ª¤

I am Li Hua from Xinhua Middle School. The topic of my email is¡°Regulating taxi booking apps¡±.

From the picture we can see a taxi driver operating a mobile phone with taxi-booking apps while driving. It shows a common phenomenon at present. ª¥

Taxi drivers and passengers both have benefited from taxi-booking apps, which can not only cut down empty running time of the taxi to some extent, but also help passengers find a taxi more conveniently. ª¥

However, such taxi-booking apps are of great concern. The taxi-calling service has led to many problems. For example, some drivers focus on the apps too attentively and may cause accidents. In addition, some old or young people cannot operate these apps to hire a taxi. ª¥

In my opinion, road safety is extremely important and the government had better consider regulating those apps to ensure safety.ª¥
