Up to now, the smog has occurred many times, which has done great harm to our daily life. Many traffic accidents have happened. Quite a lot of flights have to be put off. Many people have to stay at home for fear of the poisonous air caused by the smog.

People have realized the great harm caused by the smog and the importance of protecting the environment. People are taking measures to reduce the smog weather. The government suggests people go to work or school with the public traffic. Also we should plant more trees.

W: Let me start out by giving you an example. Arden Textile is a company that makes sports clothes. The company was started in 1906, and is still owned by the Arden family. In December 2003, a terrible fire destroyed the company’s largest factory, and the company had to close. More than 1000 workers lost their jobs. The company’s insurance paid for the loss. The Arden family talked about building a new factory overseas, where costs are lower. But instead they decided to rebuild the factory. During the rebuilding, the company gave all the workers their regular pay. This caused great financial problems for the company, and they almost went out of business.

Did the company do the right thing? Many people said yes, because Arden Textile helped their employees. The company’s president was on many TV programs, and received an award from the Prime Minister. But other people said no. They said the main responsibility of a business is to make profits, and that’s how it helps society the most.
