On a few occasions during her two years of going to pharming parties(品药聚会). “My heart would race so fast that it felt like it was going to explode. I felt weak and confused sometimes and even passed out several times,” she recalls. “But I picked up from the ground because I had a lot of pride in my drinking and drugging. I was really crazy about it and proud of the fact that I could take more than a lot of people. I could come home and have a conversation with my parents.”

Finally, though, things got out of control. “I couldn't go a day without taking something,” she recalls, “and after a while, the pills upset my stomach;it hurt all the time, and I hardly ate. Finally, I couldn't take it any more. I went to my parents and told them I needed help.”

Based on Sue Monk Kidd's best selling novel, The Secret Life of Bees is a movie of hope and faith for even the unloved and oppressed. Just as in the book, young Lily's thoughts sound and read like poetry, from the first moment when her room fills with bees.

The movie tells the story of the young white girl who runs away from her cruel father. Lily convinces Rosaleen, the black housekeeper to escape with her, after Rosaleen is beaten when she attempts to vote. When Lily asks Rosaleen why she risked her life standing up to the angry men who wanted to kill her, she hears “Giving in to them would be just another way of dying”.

That's Lily's story, too. She finally stands up to her father. They come to Tiburon, a town whose name is written on a label from a jar belonging to her mother before her death.

In Tiburon, there is no place where Rosaleen can eat or stay, despite the fact that President Johnson just signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964. ( It's still just a piece of paper, Rosaleen says. ) So Lily goes in to buy food for them, and sees the jar on sale. When Lily finds out it's made right there in a farmhouse, they go there and ask for help.

The good-hearted August who runs a successful company, offers them the honeycomb to live in. From August, Lily learns honey business and a life lesson from the bees. She sees a world where intelligence, independence and culture are honored and rewarded. She watches Rosaleen begin to understand that the dream of freedom from oppression she gave up when she was beaten is now possible for her. It is August who helps Lily see that love is all around her and all the others.

50.The passage is written to ________.

A. advertise a book B. explain the secret of bees' life

C. introduce a movie D. tell about American politics

Did you ever want to see Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey in 15 minutes? Then BA London Eye, is the one for you.

British Airways London Eye, formerly called as the Millennium Wheel, is situated on the south bank of the River Thames on the Jubilee Gardens. It is situated between Westminster Bridge and Hungerford Footbridge in Lambeth and adjacent to (比邻) Old Country Building. It stands opposite to Houses of Parliament.

It started with a vision of Architect couple David Marks and Julia Barfields, who had competed for millennium ideas contest conducted by Sundy Times, a British newspaper in 1993 to welcome year 2000 splendidly. Regrettably, the contest was scrapped, but the couple persisted with their dream project by forming a company for this undertaking, eventually grabbing the attention of Evening Standard, another British newspaper. British Airways, after noticing this widely publicized article, agreed to fund, foreseeing the vital contribution of this project to London's skyline and its tourism, giving a spectacular view of this fascinating city that was otherwise not visible to the Londoners.

The entire construction resembles a giant cycle wheel, with a diameter of 135m(443 ft) and weighing 1,700 tons of steel and 2,000 tons at the foundation reaching almost 30m deep! It is the largest observation wheel built so far, making even Statue of Liberty, Big Ben, St. Paul's Cathedral, look up to it. It is the 4th highest structure in London.
