About forty or more teachers give lessons for the children in the films. They teach them in the places. There their pupils are working for the films. Child actors are required to attend classes twenty hours a week. The little actors must be taught from September to the middle of June. If they do not get good marks at school, they are not allowed to go on with the work in films or TV show. The actors are usually good pupils and most of their teachers like this special kind of work. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other. War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled ( 叫喊 ) back louder. The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled(爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously , that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden , a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart. Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn't notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me,“Thanks.” Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn't always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on. 25. What made Kate so angry one evening? A. She couldn't find her books. B. She heard the author shouting loud. C. She got the news that her grandma was ill. D. She saw the author's shoes beneath her bed. 26. The author tidied up the room most probably because ________. A. she was scared by Kate's anger B. she hated herself for being so messy C. she wanted to show her care D. she was asked by Kate to do so 27. What might be the best title for the story? A. My friend Kate B. Hard work pays off C. How to be organized D. Learning to be roommates C A new study shows students who write notes by hand during lectures perform better on exams than those who use laptops(笔记本电脑). Students are increasingly using laptops for note-taking because of speed and legibility(清晰度).But the research has found laptop users are less able to remember and apply the concepts they have been taught. Researchers performed experiments that aimed to find out whether using a laptop increased the tendency to make notes “mindlessly” by taking down word for word what the professors said. In the first experiment, students were given either a laptop or pen and paper. They listened to the same lectures and were told to use their usual note-taking skills. Thirty minutes after the talk, they were examined on their ability to remember facts and on how well they understood concepts. The researchers found that laptop users took twice as many notes as those who wrote by hand. However, the typists performed worse at remembering and applying the concepts. Both groups scored similarly when it came to memorizing facts. The researchers' report said,“While more notes are beneficial,if the notes are taken mindlessly,as is more likely the case on a laptop, the benefit disappears.” In another experiment aimed at testing long-term memory, students took notes as before but were tested a week after the lecture. This time, the students who wrote notes by hand performed significantly better on the exam. These two experiments suggest that handwritten notes are not only better for immediate learning and understanding, but that they also lead to superior revision in the future. 28. More and more students favour laptops for note-taking because they can ________. A. write more notes B. digest concepts better C. get higher scores D. understand lectures better 29. While taking notes, laptop users tend to be ________. A. skilful B. mindless C . thoughtful D. tireless 30. The author of the passage aims to ________. A. examine the importance of long-term memory B.stress the benefit of taking notes by hand C. explain the process of taking notes D.promote the use of laptops 31. The passage is likely to appear in ________. A. a newspaper advertisement B. a computer textbook C. a science magazine D. a finance report D Do you want to get home from work knowing you have made a real difference in someone's life?
