Good Luck Always Comes With Hard Work

It is hard work rather than luck that brings people success. Those who ___31___ (consider) to be successful must have been working hard ___32___ (achieve) their goal and their success can also benefit others.

Some people argue that one can not succeed ___33___ he works very hard. There are many examples to show that success comes from hard work. One example is ___34___ Madam Curie had been working all day and all night ___35___ she made the great discovery of radium.

Other people think that luck and opportunity are ___36___ (importance) than hard work. They argue that even if one works hard, he can not succeed ___37___ luck and opportunity. For instance, ___38___ film star, Zhang Ziyi, could never be famous if she was not given a chance to play a role in the film.

I think that ___39___ hard work and good luck are important. If one wants to be successful, he has to work hard on one hand and he has to seize the opportunity and luck on the ___40___. These two factors are essential for one’s success.

All the housewives who went to the new supermarket had one great ambition: to be the lucky customer who did not have to pay for her shopping. For this was what the notice just inside the entrance promised. It said: “Remember, once a week, one of our customers gets free goods. This May Be Your Lucky Day!”

For several weeks Mrs. Edwards hoped, like many of her friends, to be the lucky customer. Unlike her friends, she never gave up hoping. The cupboards in kitchen were full of things which she did not need. Her husband tried to advise her against buying things but failed. She dreamed of the day when the manager of the supermarket would approach her and say: “Madam, this is Your Lucky Day. Everything in your basket is free.”

One Friday morning, after she had finished her shopping and had taken it to her car, she found that she had forgotten to buy any tea. She dashed back to the supermarket, got the tea and went towards the cash-desk. As she did so, she saw the manager of the supermarket approach her. “Madam,” he said, holding out his hand, “I want to congratulate you! The easy way out isn't always easiest. I learned that lesson when I decided to treat Doug, my husband of one month, to a special meal. I glanced through my cookbook and chose a menu which included homemade bread. Knowing the bread would take time, I started on it as soon as Doug left for work. As I was not experienced in cooking, I thought if a dozen was good, two dozen would be better, so I doubled everything. As Doug loved oranges, I also opened a can of orange and poured it all into the bowl. Soon there was a sticky dough (面团) covered with ugly yellowish marks . Realizing I had been defeated, I put the dough in the rubbish bin outside so I wouldn't have to face Doug laughing at my work. I went on preparing the rest of the meal and, when Doug got home, we sat down to Cornish chicken with rice. He tried to enjoy the meal but seemed disturbed. Twice he got up and went outside, saying he thought he heard a noise. The third time he left, I went to the windows to see what he was doing. Looking out, I saw Doug standing about three feet from the rubbish bin, holding the lid up with a stick and looking into the container. When I came out of the house, he dropped the stick and explained that there was something alive in our rubbish bin. Picking up the stick again, he held the lid up enough for me to see. I felt cold. But I stepped closer and looked harder. Without doubt it was my work. The hot sun had caused the dough to double in size and the fermenting yeast (酵母) made the surface shake and sigh as though it were breathing . I had to admit what the "living thing" was and why it was there. I don't know who was more embarrassed by the whole thing--- Doug or me.

48. Why did the woman put the dough in the rubbish bin?

A. She didn't see the use of keeping it B. She meant to joke with her husband.

C. She didn't want her husband to see it. D. She hoped it would soon dry in the sun.

49. What made the dough in the bin look frightening?

A. The rising and falling movement. B. The strange-looking marks.

50. When Doug went out the third time, the woman looked out of the window because she was_____.

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and even cancer.

Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time. Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Some burst with anger, and scream and yell (大叫). But others keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.

For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more
