Then I bought one hamburger and enjoyed my meal, but in the back of my mind I wondered whether the homeless man was hungry. After I finished my meal I decided to order another one for him. At this point I didn't know if he was still around, but I tried anyway. ????At the counter I ordered a hamburger and also a hot chocolate, because it was cold outside, and I thought it would help warm him up. They delivered me the hot chocolate first and as I waited for my hamburger, I noticed the homeless man was standing right beside me. I looked at him and smiled, "This hot chocolate is for you." He replied like a gentleman "Thank you so much. That's very kind of you." ???? I always believe no matter how hard up(缺钱) I am, there are always those who are worse off than I. When you help someone, it's not always about money but about love. The love you give today, someone might forget tomorrow. It doesn't matter. Love anyway, because the greatest thing you can give is love.

21.Why did the author stop at a fast food restaurant?

Because he was hungry and thirsty.

Because the hamburgers there interested him.

Because he hoped he could collect some bottles there.

Because he wanted to help the homeless man there.

22.We can learn from the first two paragraphs that the author ________.

was angry with the homeless man

was an old friend of the homeless man

decided to help the homeless man after his meal

finished his meal quickly to help the homeless man

23.We can infer from the text that the homeless man was _______,

old and sick B. polite and friendly C. sad and nervous D. calm and confident

24.The author wants to tell us that ______.

love cannot be forced

money cannot buy everything

there is always someone that we can help

we shouldn’t forget those who once helped us

Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, the son of John and Elizabeth Dickens. John Dickens was a clerk in the Naval Pay Office. He had a poor head for finances, and finally found himself imprisoned for debt.

When the family paid off the debt and his father was set free, the twelve-year-old Dickens, already hurt by the experience, was further wounded by his mother's insistence that he continue to work at Warren’s Blacking Factory.

His father, however, rescued him from that fate, and between 1824 and 1827 Dickens was a day pupil at a school in London. At fifteen, he found employment as an office boy at a lawyer's, while he studied shorthand(速记法) at night. His work memories at the Blacking Factory entered his mind repeatedly all of his life — he spoke of it only to his wife and to his closest friend, John Forster — but the dark secret became a source both of creative energy with the themes of alienation(离间) and betrayal which would appear, mostly , in David Copperfield and in Great Expectations.

In 1829 he became a reporter at Doctor’s Commons Courts, and in 1830 he met and fell in love with Maria Beadnell, the daughter of a banker. By 1832 he had become a very successful reporter of Parliamentary debates in the House of Commons , and began work as a reporter for a newspaper.

In 1833 his relationship with Maria Beadnell ended, probably because her parents did not think him a good match. In the same year his first published story appeared , and was followed , very shortly thereafter, by a number of other stories and sketches (短剧). In 1834, still a newspaper reporter, he adopted the soon-to-be-famous penname “Boz”. His poor father, who was the original of Mr. Micawber in David Copperfield, was once again arrested for debt, and Charles was forced to come to his aid. Later in his life both of his parents and his brothers were frequently after him for money.

What can we infer from the second paragraph?

Charles’ father once worked at the Blacking Factory.

Charles’ mother was kind to him .

Charles didn’t like to work at the Blacking Factory.

Charles made a lot of money by working.

26 . According to the text, how many times was Charles’father arrested?

Once B. Twice C. Three times. D.Four times .

We can infer from the last paragraph that Maria’s parents _______.

thought Charles would become famous

were not satisfied with Charles

had to give in to Maria and Charles

decided to marry their daughter to Charles

Which of the following is the correct order to describe Charles’ life according to the text?

.Charles Dickens was a day pupil at a school in London.

Charles Dickens had his first story published.

Charles Dickens became a reporter at Doctor’s Commons Courts.

Charles Dickens continued to work at Warren’s Blacking Factory.

Charles Dickens adopted the penname “Boz”.

(1)(4)(3)(5)(2) B. (4)(1)(3)(2)(5) C. (4)(1)(2)(3)(5) D. (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)
