Usually this means wearing thick, appropriately modest boxer shorts, but bloomers, slips, briefs, and boxer-briefs all work as well. That’s it? Yeah, that’s it. But from the core idea comes so much more. When large groups of people parade around in public without their pants, amazing things are bound to happen. At the very least, you’ll take your dull, miserable life a little less seriously, at least for one day. So I can wear a skirt instead? or “Hey , no problem, I was going to wear a dress anyways!” You’re very clever, but you’re missing the point. Articles of clothing like skirts, shorts, kilts, and dresses don’t count, because people are encouraged to revel(狂欢) in the absence of pants, and not replace pants with other clothing. The point is to relax and enjoy the humor inherent in people not wearing pants. A good rule of thumb is to pretend like you were going to wear pants, and then just fail to put them on. Is this a joke? In the same way that all of life is a joke, yes. But no. We’re not trying to cheat anyone, or satirize(讽刺) anything. We’re simply advocating a fun-filled holiday, and the more people who participate the more fun it is. Did you know that in Britain “pants” means underwear? Shouldn’t it be No Trousers Day instead? Hmmm.. this holiday could be extremely interesting in Britain, then. But seriously, No Pants Day just sounds catchier, doesn’t it? And besides, this gives British people something to mention when you bring up the holiday around them. They laugh and say, “In Britain, ‘pants’ means….” etc, and they feel good for being the center of attention. So bully for them! If I want to participate, what are the requirements? 1.Willing to take pants off on subway. 2.Able to keep a straight face about it. 56. The first paragraph can be considered as ______. A. a conclusion B. a comment C. a summary D. a definition 57. The underlined sentence in the passage may mean________. A. you just don’t understand the real aim B. you aren’t getting the mark C. you fail to find the particular place D. you don’t know the details 58. Why is No Pants Day NOT a joke? A. Because it plays a trick on somebody. B. Because it laughs at anything in life. C. Because it is meant to offer people fun. D. Because it requires a lot of people to join. B NO PLANS FOR THE HOLIDAYS? 59. A pupil who prefers not to spend any money can go for______. A. the cruise B. the guitar lessons C. the school choir D. story time 60. Who will conduct the guitar lessons? A. The band instructor. B. The choir mistress. C. Mr. Stephen Keene. D. An invited guest. 61. If a pupil is going away for the holidays with his /her family from June 1 to June 7, he/she can still go for______. A. story time B. the cruise C. the school band D. the guitar lessons 62. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage ? A. You’ve got only one chance for absence if you sign up for the guitar lesson. B. You should pay $20 for the dinner under the starlit sky in the Geography Club’s twilight cruise. C. Generally speaking, members of certain organization will get priority or reduced prices for activities held by that organization. D. The cruise fee for members of Geography Club is $10 (half of the payment). C Dear Editor, Brockingham is run by people who are more interested in tourists than its residents. The problem is that the people running the government refuse to accept new ideas. By banning (禁止) all fast-food restaurants and discount stores, they take away all the places kids can afford to shop. These people forget that when they were young, they could go to the South Street Soda Fountain and get an ice-cream soda for 25 cents. Today you can’t find an ice-cream soda anywhere in Brockingham for less than $2! Where can kids go for a snack? There is not a single restaurant in Brockingham where a family of four can eat dinner for | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
