Promise to be there for any and all doctor's visits whether a disease or a regular medical check-up. Most mothers always say "no need," another set of eyes and ears is always a good idea at a doctor's visit. The best part ? This one is free. Gift No. 2 Help your mother organize all of her medical records, which include the test results and medical information. Put them all in one place. Be sure to make a list of all of her medicines and what times she takes them. "Having all this information in one place could end up saving your mother's life," Dr. Marie Savard said. Gift No. 3 Enough sleep is connected to general health conditions. "Buy your mother cotton sheets and comfortable pillows to encourage better sleep," Savard said. "We know that good sleep is very important to our health." Gift No. 4 Some gift companies such as Presents for Purpose allow you to pay it forward this Mother's Day by picking gifts in which 10 percent of the price you pay goes to a charity (慈善机构) Gift givers can choose from a wide variety of useful but inexpensive things -many of which are "green" - and then choose a meaningful charity from a list. When your mother gets the gift, she will be told that she has helped the chosen charity. 21. What are you advised to do for your mother at doctor's visits? A. Take notes. B. Be with her. C. Buy medicine. D. Give her gifts. 22. Where can you find a gift idea to improve your mother’s sleep? A. In Gift No. 1. B. In Gift No. 2. C. In Gift No. 3. D. In Gift No. 4. 23. Buying gifts from Presents for Purpose allows mothers to A. enjoy good sleep B. be well-organized C. bet extra support D. give others help B It feels like every time my mother and I start to have a conversation, it turns into an argument. We talk about something as simple as dinner plans and suddenly, my mother will push the conversation into World War III. She’ll talk about my lack of a bright future because I don’t plan to be a doctor. And much to her disappointment, I don’t want to do any job related to science, either. In fact, when I was pushed to say that I planned to major(主修) in English and communications, she nearly had a heart attack. “Why can’t you be like my co-worker’s son?” she bemoans all the time. Her co-worker’s son received a four-year scholarship and is now earning 70,000 dollars a year as an engineer. I don’t know what to answer except that I simply can’t be like Mr. Perfect as I’ve called the unnamed co-worker’s son. I can’t be like him. I’m the type of person who loves to help out in the community, write until the sun goes down, and most of all, wants to achieve a career because I love it, not because of fame (名声) or salary. 24.Which of the following topics do the writer and his mother often talk about? He wants to be like his mother’s co-worker’s son. B. He wants to find a job in his community in the future. C. He doesn’t think his mother’s co-worker’s son is perfect. D. He wants to do something he really likes in the future. C To me, life without music would not be exciting. I realize that this is not true for everybody. Many people get along quite well without going to the concert, and listening to the record. But music plays an important part in everyone's life, whether he realizes it or not. Try to imagine, for example, what films or TV plays would be like without music. Would the feelings, the moving plot, and the greatest interests, be so exciting or dramatic? I'm not sure about it. Now, we have been speaking of music in its more common meaning----the kind of music we hear in the concert hall. But if we look at some parts of music more closely, we discover them in our everyday life,too----in the rhythm of the sea, the melody of a bird in the woods and so on. So music surely has meaning for everyone, in some way or other. And, of course, it has special meaning for those who have spent all their lives working on playing or writing music. It is well said, “Through music a child enters into a world of beauty, expresses himself from his heart, feels the joy of doing things alone, learns to take care of others, develops his mind and makes his body strong.” 28. What dose the writer say more about in the text? A. Life full of music. B. Life without music. C. The importance of music. D. The development of music. 29. From the text, we learn that many people________. A. don't realize the importance of music B. get along quite well without music C. go to the concert instead of enjoying music D. think music would be less exciting than films 30. What does the underlined word “melody” mean in the text? A. flying B. looking C. singing D. living 31. From the last paragraph, we learn that music________. A. is very important, especially for children B. is very necessary for our everyday life C. can make our life exciting and dramatic D. can enter into another beautiful world D Imagine a world without trees. What if the rain forests and all of the plants and colorful animals suddenly did not exist(存在)? In 1962, Gaylord Nelson decided something needed to be done to protect the environment. The work that he began led to what we now know as Earth Day, which is celebrated each year around the world. Nelson realized very few people were concerned(关注) about environmental problems. He then went to Washington, D.C., where he hoped to persuade President John F. Kennedy to take a stand on environmental problems. It wasn’t long before President Kennedy agreed that action should be taken. The President set out on a five-day, eleven-state environmental protection tour in September 1963. Although Kennedy’s tour was not a success, Nelson was not ready to give up. Nelson continued to speak to audiences across 25 states about the importance of the environment. Although his point of view began to be accepted among most people, politicians were still not listening. It was September of 1969, at a meeting in Seattle, when Nelson announced that he would hold a nationwide demonstration(游行) for environmental protection the next spring. On April 22, 1970, more than 20 million Americans took part in Nelson’s demonstration. It made people sit up and pay attention to environmental problems. One year later, that day was set up as an official international holiday by the UN. Each year on Earth Day, people plant trees, clean up rubbish, and do other things to care for the environment. 32. What is the main idea of the second paragraph? A.Nelson did everything to protect the environment. B.Nelson tried to win the support of the government.
