envelope and places it on the table. After a moment,he looks back at the envelope but this time he looks surprised,as if he did not know it was there. He opens it to find a birthday card and delightedly puts it on the table for everyone to see.

When he looks at the menu,an astonished look swiftly appears on his face.He takes all the money out of his wallet, counts it and puts it in a saucer(茶托).He then looks from the menu to the money with concern until he finds one thing that makes him smile. Then he orders a dish called “steak tartare”.When the dish arrives,he is shocked to discover that “steak tartare” is actually raw hamburger. He makes an attempt to eat it,but it is clear from the look on his face that he finds the taste truly disgusting. He cannot hide his feelings, except when the waiter asks if everything is all right. When this happens,he smiles and nods, indicating that everything is fine. When the waiter is not looking, however,he busies himself hiding the raw meat anywhere he can reach—the sugar bowl, the tiny flower vase, inside a bun(小圆面包) and under a plate. He becomes so desperate in the end that he even hides some inside the purse of a woman sitting near him and throws some down the trousers of the restaurant’s violinist!

I like to watch Mr.Bean on TV,but I wouldn’t like to meet someone like him in real life and I certainly wouldn’t like to have dinner with him!

The average British 22 year-old has more than 1,000 online friends on sites like Facebook, compared to those in their fifties who have fewer than 20, according to a new study.

The “Facebook generation gap” has been highlighted in a new piece of research which shows that the average 22 year-old claims to have 1,000 or more friends on sites like Facebook.

People in their twenties have more than 50 times as many digital friends as those who are over 50 years old, despite the popularity of sites like Facebook with the older generations, says a study conducted by consumer research group Intersperience.

The news comes during the same week Facebook's second-in command, Sheryl Sandberg, is visiting the UK to deliver a speech at the London School of Economics.

Facebook's chief operating officer is going to speak about how the social web has transformed people's friendships and relationships.

The survey found that there was a clear link between people's age and the number of online friends they have. The researchers found that those aged 13 to 16, have an average of 450 friends on social networks, with girls having slightly more friends that boys. People in their thirties tend to have between 100 and 200 friends, while those in their forties have between 50 and 100.

However, those using sites such as Facebook over the age of 50, tended to have 20 or less friends. The oldest person surveyed was 70 years old.

Paul Hudson, Intersperience's chief executive, said: "Our research underlines fundamental (根本的)changes taking place in British society as a result of finally entering the digital age. Half of the UK population are on Facebook now. In a social media context, a 'friend' means something different to a 20 year old than to a 50 year old."

He added: “Social networking activity is just one example of how different groups are adapting to the digital age at different paces. In this case, age is the determining factor - however in other instances it is not.”

25.Which is the determining factor in social networking activity?

A.Gender B.Age C.Relationship D.Pace

26.What can we learn from the survey?

A.The older a person is, the less online friends he may have

B.Girls have remarkably more friends than boys

C.People in their thirties tend to have between 50 and 100 friends

D.The link between people’s age and the number of online friends they have is not clear

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful bird, which was very curious about hell. When she was little, her mother always told her that if she didn’t master the flying skills, she would go to hell. She was so curious about hell that she always asked others what hell looked like, but no one was sure, because none of them had ever been there. Some said hell was a place full of water, and others told her that hell was full of burning fire. However, the bird knew they were lying. She wanted to find out what hell was.

When other birds were learning flying skills, she always hid herself and watched them. She thought in this way she could go to hell and see what hell looked like. However, she spent so little time learning flying skills that one day she was caught by a little boy. The little boy gave her to his grandpa in the countryside as a gift. The old man liked her very much. He made a delicate cage and put her in it. The bird was very worried because she thought she couldn’t find out what hell was like staying in this small cage. However, she couldn’t escape. Day after day, she just stayed in the cage, watching other birds flying. She lost her freedom and she became sadder and sadder. At last, she became ill. The old man finally opened the cage, but she was too weak to fly. Lying no the ground, she thought of the question that she ever asked all the time.

“What does hell look like?”

“Hell is a small well-decorated cage.” Before she closed her eyes forever, she finally answered that question herself.

Life comes in a package. This package includes happiness and sorrow, failure and success, hope and despair. Life is a learning process. Experiences in life teach us new lessons and make us a better person. With each passing day we learn to handle various situations.

Love

Love plays a pivotal role on out life. Love makes you feel wanted. Without love a person could go hayward and also become cruel and ferocious. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones who shower us with unconditional love and care, they teach us about what is right and wrong, good and bad. But we always tend to take this for granted. It is only after marriage and having kids that a person understands and becomes sensitive to others feelings. Kids make a person responsible and mature and help us to understand life better.

Happiness and Sorrow

Materialistic happiness is short-lived, but happiness achieved by bringing a smile on others face gives a certain level of fulfillment. Peace of mind is the main link to happiness. No mind is happy without peace. We realize the true worth of happiness when we are in sorrow. Sorrow is basically due to death of a loved one, failure and despair. But these things are temporary and pass away.

Failure and Success

Failure is the path to success. It helps us to touch the sky, teaches us to survive and shows us a specific way. Success brings in money, fame, pride and self-respect. Here it becomes very important to keep our head on out shoulder. The only way to show our gratitude to God for bestowing success on us is by being humble, modest, courteous and respectful to the less fortunate ones.

Hope and Despair

Hope is what keeps life going. Parents always hope their children will do well. Hope makes us dream. Hope builds in patience. Life teaches us not to despair even in the darkest hour, because after every night there is a day. Nothing remains the same we have only one choice—keep moving on in life and be hopeful.

Life teaches us not to regret over yesterday, for it has passed and is beyond our control. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dull. So the only alternative is work hard today, so that we will enjoy a better tomorrow.

32.In the passage, the author compares life to .

A.package B.joy and sorrow

C.failure and success D.hope and despair

33.In which section can readers probably read the passage?
