第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分30分)

第一节(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)

A

Many teenagers find it hard to make friends. It is NOT! Here are some ways for them.

Make the first move. Don’t be shy, because it won’t help you in anything. Look around for someone that seems interesting, and then talk to them. A good subject to talk about to anyone is music, because almost everybody likes music. You can ask someone what kind of music they like and start a cool conversation with them and even find things in common. Other topics could be movies or sports. Keep away from those subjects like politics, religion, relationship problems and drama.

Be nice. How do you expect them to like you if you are not nice? Put a calm smile on your face and find out what you and the person you are trying to befriend (与……交朋友) have in common. You’ll be able to be more comfortable (轻松的) if you find out that the other person has things in common with you.

Be a good listener. Pay attention to what they say, look straight in their eyes and show you’re paying attention. It’s important to be a good listener, because everyone likes to be heard. If this person feels like you’re listening to them, your new friend will enjoy talking with you more.

Develop friendships. You may talk to someone now but soon they’ll forget you if you stop. You’d better take a time to say hi to them every day and ask how they’re doing. Say their names as often as you can. If you do that every day, they’ll be happy that you care about them and remember them, so they won’t forget you and they will become your good friends.

1. What’s the main idea of the text?

A. How to help shy teenagers. B. How to make friends.

C. Listen to others carefully. D.Being yourself is important.

2. Which of the following is a good subject to start a conversation with a stranger?

A. Music B. Politics C. Religion D. Drama

3. When you listen to others speaking, you should _______.

A. close your eyes B. stare at the ground

C. nod your head often D. look straight in their eyes

4. Which of the following is a good way to develop friendships?

A. Ask others personal questions. B. Invite others to dinner every day.

C. Say hello to others every day. D. Forget about others’ shortcomings.

B

I heard many parents complaining (抱怨) that their teenage children are rebelling (叛逆的). I wish it were so. At your age you ought to be growing away from your parents. You should be learning to stand on your own two feet. But take a good look at the present rebellion. It seems that teenagers are taking the same way of showing that they disagree with their parents. Instead of striking out boldly (大胆地) on their own, most of them are clutching (紧握) at one another’s hands for reassurance (安心). They claim (声称) they want to dress as they please. But they all wear the same clothes. They set off in new directions in music. But somehow they all end up huddling (聚在一起) round listening to the same record. Their reason for thinking or acting in thus-and-such a way is that the crowd is doing it. They have come out of their cocoon (蚕茧) into a larger cocoon. It has become harder and harder for a teenager to stand up against the popularity (流行) wave and to go his or her own way. Industry has firmly carved (雕刻) out a teenage market. These days every teenager can learn from the advertisements what a teenager should have and be. And many of today’s parents have come to award high marks for the popularity of their children. All this adds up to a great barrier for the teenager who wants to find his or her own path. But the barrier is worth climbing over. The path is worth following. You may want to listen to classical music instead of going to a party. You may want to collect rocks when everyone else is collecting records. You may have some thoughts that you don’t care to share at once with your classmates. Well, go to it. Find yourself. Be yourself. Popularity will come – with the people who respect you for who you are. That is the only kind of popularity that really counts. 5. In this passage, the author wants to tell _______. A. teenagers to try to find their real selves

B. readers to try to be popular with people around C. parents to try to control and guide their children

D. people to try to understand and respect each other 6. The author disapproves (不赞成) of rebelling teenagers _______. A. growing away from their parents B. following the popularity trend C. walking a new way on their own D. turning to their friends for help 7. The phrase “larger cocoon” at the end of the second paragraph refers to _______. A. the parental care and love B. the dazzling (眼花缭乱的) music world C. the variable (易变的) society D. the popularity wave in the society

C

Why do men die earlier than women? The latest research makes it known that the reason could be that men’s hearts go into rapid decline (衰老) when they reach middle age. The largest study of the effects of ageing on the heart has found that women’s longevity may be linked to the fact that their hearts do not lose their pumping power with age. “We have found that the power of the male heart falls by 20-25 percent between 18 and 70 years of age,” said the head of the study, David Goldspink of Liverpool John Moores University in the UK. “Within the heart there are millions of cells (细胞) that enable it to beat. Between the age of 20 and 70, one-third of those cells die and are not replaced in men,” said Goldspink. “This is part of the ageing process.” What surprises scientists is that the female heart sees very little loss of these cells. A healthy 70-year-old woman’s heart could perform almost as well as a 20-year-old one’s. “This gender difference might just explain why women live longer than men,” said Goldspink. They studied more than 250 healthy men and women between the ages of 18 and 80, focusing on healthy persons to remove the confusing influence of disease. “The team has yet to find why ageing takes a greater loss on the male heart,” said Goldspink. The good news is that men can improve the health of their heart with regular exercise. Goldspink stressed that women also need regular exercise to prevent their leg muscles becoming smaller and weaker as they age. 8. The text mainly talks about ________. A. men’s heart cells B. women’s ageing process C. hearts and long life D. women’s heart cells 9. According to the text, the UK scientists have known that ________. A. women have more cells than men when they are born B. women can replace the cells that enable the heart to beat C. women never lose their pumping power with age D. the female heart loses few of the cells with age 10. If you want to live longer, you should ________. A. enable your heart to beat much faster B. find out the reason for ageing C. exercise regularly to keep your heart healthy D. prevent your cells from being lost 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

To forgive(原谅)may be great, but no one ever said it was easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your anger. But forgiveness is possible — and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. 71 So how do you start the recovering? Try following these steps: Calm yourself. 72 You just take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, someone you love. Don't wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you has no intention of apologizing. 73 So if you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time. Take the control away from your offender (冒犯者). 74 Instead of focusing on your wounded?feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you. 75 If you understand that person, you may realize that he or she was acting out of love. To gain the same feeling, you may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender's point of view. Don't forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge. But it?can rob you of your self-confidence if you don't do it.

A. There are several ways to forgive and forget. B. People who forgive show less stress and feel more energetic.

C. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness. D. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way. E. Mentally replaying your hurt gives power to the person who caused your pain. F. Try to see things from the other person's position. G. To stop your anger, try a simple stress-management technique.
