简介:

During my childhood, my summers had always been a?special?time. I spent hours riding my bike, playing basketball and swimming. I sat on the porch(门廊) and talked to my mom while she tended her flowers. I?took pride in?helping my dad pull firewood for the winter. And every night I sat at a dinner table full of delicious food?prepared?with love while my family filled the room with the sound of sweet?laughter. Now I found myself missing them?more?than ever.

Finally when I was in my lowest spirits, I heard a?knock?at the door. I opened it and was?delighted and surprised?to see my parents standing there with big smiles to fill my?hungry?heart and a box full of food to feed my hungry friends. We spent the afternoon eating, catching up, and just being together. It felt so good, and I felt so loved.

Victor Hugo wrote that, “The true happiness of life is the belief?that one is loved; loved for oneself, or better yet, love despite oneself.” It was that gift of happiness that my parents gave me that afternoon and everyday of my life. It was their love that gave me a taste of the true love. May you always know that you are loved, and may you always share your happiness with the world.

Every day thousands of people travel across the world for different reasons. Whenever I’ve checked in for a flight, I’ve seen many travelers saying, “I missed it”, “I forgot it”, etc. This happens because while packing our bags, we miss so many important things.

The baggage packing isn’t a big job but many people see it as a messy job. I’ll advise you to always pack your bags according to your trip. The baggage should be different according to the duration(持续时间) of your trip. You shouldn’t carry unnecessary things or more than what you need.

If you’re going on a business trip of not more than 2-3 days, then make sure you don’t carry more than a single bag. Pack 2-3 business suits, a night suit and also some casual clothes(便服). You’ll need casual clothes because you might get a chance to explore the place.

While on holidays of 5-6 days, you have to be very smart while packing your bag. First of all, check the climate of the place. If it’s summer, then carry lightweight clothes and if it’s winter, then you have to pack a sweater. For holidays, pack all the small things you’ll be requiring. But don’t carry too many things.

If you’re going to a relative’s place, then you can be a bit relaxed because if you miss something, you won’t have to worry as your relative will be there to help you. But don’t forget to buy gifts for your relatives. If the gifts are fragile, then pack them in a hard box and always keep them in between clothes. No need to carry too many clothes as you can wash your clothes at their place.

B. had better stay at the relative’s home

C. don’t have to buy too many things there

D. should buy expensive gifts for the relative

7. What does the passage mainly talk about?

A. What to take while traveling.

B. How to pack baggage according to the duration.

C. How to take care of the baggage while traveling.

D. Why packing baggage is necessary while traveling.

Zach Marks wasn't supposed to be able to get on an adult social networking website. After all, he was an 11-year-old boy from Melbourne Beach, Florida — younger than the limited age. But he managed to create a page anyway — not once, but twice.

To his joy, hundreds of people made friends with him — including grown-ups he didn't know.He saw pictures he probably shouldn't have seen. For the first time, one of his dad’s friends caught him on there. But Zach was determined and created another new page — and unfortunately he got caught again. Anyway, Zach's dad was not happy — especially the second time.

“We had a really heated argument,” Zach said. “And in the middle of the argument, I told my dad that there was no safe social networking site out there for kids.” That's when a good idea came up.

Today, at the age of 12, Zach is the creative force behind Grom Social — a new social networking site that is created by kids and for kids.Zach came up with the idea himself and created it with the help of his family.Grom Social is safe, fun and educational.Only kids are allowed on Grom Social. And in order for them to get on, they have to enter their parents' e-mail addresses. In that way, the parents can monitor everything their kids say and do on the site.

In spring, you may have seen white foam (泡沫) on a green tree or other plants. As a matter of fact, the foam is where young spittlebugs(吹沫虫) live. These insects are protected by the foam, and they usually don’t do much harm to the plants.

As we all know, in late summer, a mother spittlebug will lay her eggs on the plant. And in spring the babies will hatch. After they come to the new world, they begin to eat juice from the plant. The babies eat more juice than their bodies need for food. The extra juice mixes with a special waste that the spittlebugs produce. When this fluid (液体) is released, it mixes with the air, forming a bubbly foam.

What is so great about having a foam home? The space inside is so wet that it can keep the bugs’ soft bodies from drying out. And the foam tastes bad, so it keeps away most animals that would eat the bugs. Some birds will reach their heads through the foam to find the bugs. Wasps and ants might eat them as well. But most of the bugs stay safe inside the foam.

Once the bugs have grown into adults, they stop making foam. They leave their homes and jump from plant to plant in search of food. The adults look a little like tiny frogs. For this reason they are also called froghoppers.

If you see some foam on a plant, you might want to take a careful look inside. Gently push some of the foam aside with a small stick. Deep inside you may see a few insects eating plant juice. They might also be making more bubbles. Be sure to push the foam back after a moment to cover the insects and keep them safe. Soon the spittlebugs will grow up and leave their foam home. They will join the other insects in the grassland.

A. Protecting the bugs from being hurt.

B. Helping the bugs easily find food.

C. Providing enough nutrients for the bugs.

D. Keeping the plant juice from dying out.
