One evening I heard a loud crash in the street. Earlier that evening my wife had asked me to go to the store to get some soft drinks. It seemed like this would be a good time to let my teenage daughter Holly practice her driving, so I sent her to the store in my truck. At dinner my son talked about how much he liked my truck. I enjoyed having it, but I said: “Guy, my heart is not set on that truck. I like it but it is just metal and won’t last forever. Never set your heart on anything that won’t last.” After hearing the loud noise, the whole family ran outside. My son shouted: “Dad! Dad, Holly crashed your truck.” My heart sank and my mind was flooded with conflicting thoughts. Was anyone hurt? Who else was involved? As I ran to the door, I heard a voice in my heart say: “Here is a chance to show Holly what you really love. She’ll never forget it.” Later that week a friend stopped by and asked what had happened to my truck. I told her the whole story. Her eyes moistened (湿润) and she said: “That happened to me when I was a girl. I borrowed my dad’s car and ran into a log that had fallen across the road. I ruined the car. When I got home my Dad knocked me to the ground and began to kick me.” Over 40 years later, she still felt the pain of that night. I remember how sad Holly was and how I comforted her. One day, when Holly thinks back on her life, I want her to know what really matters in my life. 21. How did the crash happen? A.The van was parked in the wrong place that evening. B.Holly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brakes. C.The brakes of the truck didn’t work properly. D.Holly was too careless and young to drive a truck. 22. Why didn’t the writer punish Holly? A.He was so rich that he didn’t care about losing one truck. B.He thought there was no point punishing her after the accident. C.He believed the truck was made of metal and of poor quality. D.He wanted Holly to know he loved her more than anything. 23. What does the underlined sentence mean? A.She still suffered physical pain. B.She felt sorry of damaging the car. C.It left a deep wound on her heart. D.She was not forgiven by her Dad. 24. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A.What really matters? B.Better to forgive and forget C.Who is to blame? D.Accidents will happen B September 21, 2050----It was announced that the first tourist heading for Mars will be the 38-year-old US businessman Patrick Clifford. He will leave the earth in June 2052 and set his foot on the surface of Mars in November, together with the other 6 astronauts to further explore the planet. Patrick has now two years of training ahead of him to get ready for the trip. Not only will he spend five months in getting to Mars, but another 600 days there before he can go back home.? Patrick was of course very excited, “ This has been my dream since I was four, and seeing the first man on Mars 20 years ago made me realize that it was possible.” To be able to pay the $ 1. 3 billion for his ticket for the trip, Patrick sold his majority stake (股份) in the company his father had built. “I know that my father would have been proud of me if he had still been alive today, he knew what this means to me”, says Patrick. There is no possibility that you will find Patrick begging in your street when he comes back. It is said that he was paid twice as much for his part of the company. So, how is he going to spend his 600 days on the red planet? “Well, since I don’t have a job when I get back after selling the company, I have plenty of time to come up with a new business idea”, he says and laughs. If he brings a shovel(铁锹)he can start building the first hotel there, but maybe he shouldn’t expect too many guests until someone can offer a cheaper ticket. 25. How long will Patrick Clifford be away before he comes back? A.About five months B.About two years? C.About 600 days D.About 750 days 26. The underlined part in Paragraph 3 means that ?????????. The good news is that most eyesight problems can easily be solved by wearing glasses. Regular eye tests are important for everyone. Children and teenagers, under the age of 16 and up to the age of 19 for those full-time education, have the right to have eye tests for free in Britain. As the eye test is free, there’s no excuse for not having a regular eye test. Doctors suggest that it’s better to have an eye test about once a year. Wearing glasses isn’t always regarded as being cool and teens who suddenly need to wear glasses may find it difficult to accept. If they’ve grown up wearing glasses, then they may be more used to it. However, if your eyes are in poor health, not wearing glasses can put even more pressure on your eyes and could make them even worse. Thankfully, the days of little choice of glasses frames (框架) for teenagers are gone and there’s now a wide selection of frames. If a teen does need to wear glasses, then it’s good to let him or her choose the type, as he or she will be able to choose something he or she feels comfortable. Don’t forget to be guided by the experts on glasses too. 28. According to the text, teens in the UK ______.
